Company Overview
We are a growing biotech-related organization (250+ employees) with a strong technical environment and a major infrastructure transformation project underway. We're seeking a hands-on, senior-level contractor to fill a leadership gap within our Infrastructure and Security team.

Position Overview
This role will oversee infrastructure operations, support ongoing and upcoming projects (including a large AWS re-architecture), manage vendor relationships, and ensure solid security practices. You will manage a team (currently 9, with plans to reduce), work alongside helpdesk support (onsite via MSP), and provide technical leadership and strategic input.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day infrastructure and security operations across Windows and Linux environments (primarily Windows)

  • Manage and oversee large AWS-based infrastructure; upcoming large AWS project

  • Provide strategic input and guidance on Azure-based initiatives and perform hands-on testing of new Azure implementations

  • Oversee and manage third-party vendors, including networking and MSP partners

  • Support and review security protocols; lead incident response coordination and assist in policy development as needed

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to redesign and improve infrastructure (300 Linux servers to be re-architected)

  • Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of systems

  • Align IT operations with business objectives

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure and Security leadership roles

  • Strong background in Windows and Linux system administration

  • Deep expertise with AWS; experience leading large-scale AWS transformations

  • Solid working knowledge of Azure, including hands-on deployment and testing

  • Experience managing outsourced vendors and MSPs

  • Familiarity with general IT security practices and incident response protocols

  • Ability to write or guide security policy development

  • Strong leadership and project management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in biotech or life sciences companies (a plus, not required)

  • Experience managing infrastructure in a 250+ employee company

Compensation
Please provide your best rate. This is a senior contract role, and compensation will be aligned with market standards and experience.
