Job Description
Under general direction, perform complex and specialized network, infrastructure, and cybersecurity functions including troubleshooting, analysis, research, implementation, and problem resolution. Supports the administration and maintenance of the University's enterprise network infrastructure, cybersecurity operations, cloud and on-premises systems, identity and access management solutions, and technology infrastructure projects. Serves as a technical resource for networking, security, and infrastructure initiatives while assisting with the protection, availability, reliability, and performance of institutional technology services.
Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Network Operations
  • Monitors enterprise network performance and responds to complex network incidents and service disruptions.
  • Analyzes, troubleshoots, tracks, and resolves enterprise network issues involving wired, wireless, and telecommunications systems.
  • Provides Tier II support and assists with Tier III escalation activities.
  • Maintains network topology diagrams, documentation, inventories, and technical standards.
  • Assists with configuration, deployment, and maintenance of switches, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, and network appliances.
  • Identifies unauthorized devices and security concerns within the network environment and coordinates remediation efforts.
  • Supports infrastructure projects involving network expansion, modernization, and technology refresh initiatives.

Cybersecurity Operations
  • Assists with vulnerability management activities including scanning, remediation tracking, patch verification, and reporting.
  • Monitors security alerts, logs, and events from cybersecurity tools and systems.
  • Assists with security incident response, investigation, containment, recovery, and documentation efforts.
  • Supports identity and access management processes including account provisioning, access reviews, multi-factor authentication, and privileged access controls.
  • Collaborates with TAMUS Cybersecurity Shared Services to implement security controls, policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Assists with compliance initiatives related to Texas A&M System standards, State of Texas requirements, cybersecurity audits, and risk assessments.
  • Participates in security awareness and cybersecurity education efforts.

Infrastructure Operations
  • Monitors infrastructure performance and availability to ensure reliable operation of enterprise technology services.
  • Assists with disaster recovery, backup validation, and business continuity initiatives.
  • Supports implementation of infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization projects.
  • Maintains technical documentation related to infrastructure systems, configurations, and operational procedures.

Project Support & Customer Engagement
  • Works with campus departments to identify technology requirements and recommend appropriate infrastructure and security solutions.
  • Assists project leaders with planning, implementation, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Participates in technology evaluations, proof-of-concept testing, and integration efforts.
  • Provides technical consultation and support to faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Collaborates with vendors and service providers to resolve technical issues and support project initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting and problem-solving, client relations skills, requirement assessment and analysis, project management methodology, context and interrelationships, and proficiency in Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft, Palo Alto, VMware, Cisco, Entra ID, Ruckus, or Intune technologies.
  • Certifications such as Security+, Network+, CCNA, CCNP, Palo Alto, or ITIL.
  • Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts including routing, switching, wireless communications, firewalls, and network security.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles including vulnerability management, incident response, security monitoring, risk management, and access control.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure technologies including servers, virtualization, cloud platforms, storage systems, backup solutions, and endpoint management.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, IT service management practices, and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Other Requirements
  • Availability to respond to critical network, infrastructure, and cybersecurity incidents outside normal business hours.
  • Participation in disaster recovery testing, cybersecurity incident response, and infrastructure maintenance activities.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to frequently move about campus facilities, including traversing stairs, navigating multiple floors, and traveling between buildings to provide on-site technical support.
  • Bending and crouching around and under objects to check, adjust, maintain, install, or repair equipment.
