About the Role:

HD Supply is seeking IT Interns to support critical technology initiatives that enable and scale our national operations. As one of the largest industrial distributors in North America, HD Supply relies on a robust, secure, and innovative technology ecosystem to serve customers across maintenance, repair, operations (MRO), multifamily housing, hospitality, healthcare, and commercial facilities.

Our IT organization plays a foundational role in driving digital transformation-supporting everything from eCommerce experiences and enterprise systems to cybersecurity, network & cloud infrastructure, and advanced analytics. As an IT Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside technology professionals who design, build, secure, and operate the systems that power a large-scale, hightransaction business.

This internship offers exposure to real-world technology challenges, cross-functional collaboration with business and supply chain partners, and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that impact customers, associates, and business performance.

Potential Teams & Projects

Interns may be aligned to one or more of the following IT teams or initiatives based on skills, interests, and business needs:

  • Cybersecurity - Supporting security monitoring, risk assessments, vulnerability management, identity and access controls, and security awareness initiatives.
  • Enterprise Product Management - Assisting with product roadmaps, requirements gathering, user stories, and metrics for internal platforms and enterprise applications.
  • eCommerce & Digital Platforms - Supporting customer-facing applications, APIs, site performance, and enhancements to online ordering and digital experiences.
  • Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence - Contributing to use cases involving forecasting, recommendations, automation, anomaly detection, Agentic AI development, or intelligent decision support.
  • Network Infrastructure & Cloud - Supporting enterprise networking, cloud environments, system reliability, performance monitoring, and infrastructure documentation.
  • Information Systems (ERP & Enterprise Applications) - Assisting with system configuration, testing, integrations, reporting, and process improvements across platforms such as SAP and related tools.
  • Software Development & Engineering - Supporting application development, testing, debugging, and documentation using modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • AI-Assisted Development: Utilizing AI coding assistants to support application development, refactoring, and code review processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support IT initiatives across applications, infrastructure, data, and security domains.
  • Assist with system analysis, documentation, testing, and validation activities.
  • Analyze data, logs, or system outputs to identify trends, issues, or improvement opportunities.
  • Develop basic reports, dashboards, or technical documentation for stakeholders.
  • Partner with IT, supply chain, operations, and business teams on cross-functional projects.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, project meetings, and sprint activities where applicable.
  • Contribute ideas that improve system performance, user experience, automation, or security.
  • Clearly document findings, processes, and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
  • Demonstrated interest in information technology through coursework, projects, labs, or internships.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Basic proficiency with at least one of the following: programming, data analysis, systems design, networking, or security concepts.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with one or more programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, SQL, React/Angular).
  • Exposure to agile development, DevOps, or product management methodologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, databases, APIs, or enterprise systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Familiarity with data visualization or analytics tools.
  • Prior internship or project experience in a technology-related role.

Job Summary

  • Prepares and delivers insights and recommendations based on analyses.
  • Produces findings and draws conclusions from analyses. Makes oral and written recommendations to management.
  • Executes tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements.
  • Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
  • May assist in research or special projects in a variety of areas in order to fulfill business initiatives and meet business objectives.

Nature and Scope

  • Works in compliance with established procedures and/or protocols. Identifies and resolves readily identifiable, clearly defined problems. Demonstrates skill in data analysis and techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in routine research/data.
  • Nature of work requires general supervision; exercises judgment. May be paired with a mentor. Work typically involves regular process checks or review of output by a coworker and/or supervisor.
  • May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support personnel.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally there may be a requirement to stoop or lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Certification may be required in some areas. Generally 0-2 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 0-1 year of experience in a related field.
