Job Description
Grow & Thrive
Are you ready to help shape the future of technology and public service in San Bruno? Join our team under the leadership of a new Information Technology Manager and empowered with a recently completed Technology Assessment to continue the amazing work of our team in service to the organization. The IT division is at a pivotal moment, and you will join a skilled team of professionals ready to tackle new challenges as the division continues to evolve.
We are looking for an experienced IT professional who is excellent with people, tenacious with problems, and ready to grow beyond the desktop. San Bruno is a full-service city, and that means real range: enterprise applications, integrations, cybersecurity, cloud and infrastructure, public safety technology, and dozens of municipal systems that residents depend on every day.
About the Role
Under general direction, the Information Technology Associate provides professional, technical, and analytical support for the City's computer hardware, software, network, and peripheral equipment. The position supports end users across all City departments, assists with projects for new and upgraded IT/IS systems, and may lead project teams and consultants.
What You'll Do
  • Own every ticket from intake to close across phone, chat, in-person, and remote channels, keeping users informed, identifying root causes from recurring patterns, and driving long-term fixes that improve IT support operations.
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, peripherals, networking equipment, VMs, servers, VoIP phones, CCTV, AV systems, and City business applications, and train users on the technology they depend on.
  • Collaborate with departments to understand business needs and recommend practical technology solutions that support City services.
  • Monitor and maintain City infrastructure including servers, network, telephony, and cloud tenancy, administer Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive), manage licenses, and oversee PC deployment and hardware/software implementation projects.
  • Implement, monitor, and troubleshoot integrations between City systems including scheduled file transfers, database connections, webhooks, middleware, and identity and financial data flows between platforms.
  • Provide hands-on support for mission-critical Police and Fire systems when working with public safety departments, including CAD, RMS, MDCs, CLETS, public safety radios, and related mobile and telecommunications equipment.
  • Contribute to IT projects across the full lifecycle, from planning and testing through cutover support and post-implementation care, covering deployments, migrations, upgrades, and new system implementations.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities using PowerShell, Power Automate, and low-code tools. Contribute to the evaluation, configuration, and deployment of AI solutions including Microsoft 365 Copilot, AI-assisted workflows, and emerging tools that improve how City departments operate.

Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
  • Takes initiative, works independently, and proactively looks for ways to improve systems and service.
  • Is eager to learn new technologies, automation and stays current with industry standards and best practices.
  • Is genuinely curious about how business processes and systems fit together and enjoys improving them.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service and builds trust with people who don't speak IT, you explain clearly, set expectations, and follow through.
  • Is tenacious in troubleshooting, digging into complex hardware, software, and network issues until the root cause is identified and resolved.
  • Works well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility, cooperation, and has a strong commitment to the City's goals and values.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Equivalent to an associate's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing technical, analytical, and support tasks for computer systems.
  • Valid California Class C driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
  • IT/IS certifications are preferred.
  • This position is required to obtain an extensive security clearance to operate in a public safety environment with service to the City's police and fire departments.

If you enjoy solving problems, supporting people, and making a real difference in how a city operates, we'd love to hear from you.
