The Opportunity

This position works out of our North Chicago, IL location in the Core Diagnostic Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.


As the Clerk 1 Warehousing/Shuttle Driver, you'll receive, issue, ship and maintain inventory for both inbound and outbound shipments. Maintain records of all goods shipped and received; prepare shipments, accept, sort and deliver received goods. Perform tasks in compliance with all company and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

What You'll Work On

  • Responsible for material movement in the warehouse as well as driving internal transfer of materials through accurate and timely completion of activities.

  • Responsible for transfer of materials to/from the warehouse complex to/from Abbott Park locations.

  • Track and follow receiving incidences, shipping or internal movement of actual goods / materials. Process return material authorizations (RMA).

  • Investigate job variances and negative inventory.

  • Minimizes supply chain scrap and processes material destruction orders (MDO).

  • Assist in stock sweeps and may perform physical cycle counts.

  • Support month end financial close.

  • Maintain the inputs for the department metrics.

  • Proficient use of the material management system.

  • Preparation, completion and maintenance of appropriate and applicable documents.

  • May research historical data within the warehouse management system and appropriately share for business purposes.

  • Generate reports as required or requested.

  • Safely and appropriately work with and handle dangerous goods as necessary.

  • Follow all EHS rules and procedures for your department.

  • Report any EHS incidents and unsafe acts and conditions promptly to supervision.

  • Attend all required training and programs.

  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

  • Forward any opportunities to improve the EHS program to supervision.

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the Quality System.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED, equivalency degree or equivalent and relevant work experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of material handling, inventory, and or material coordination

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record

  • Current Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME) or ability to obtain and maintain the endorsement as a condition of employment

  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain compliance with all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) and regulatory requirements

Certifications and Training Requirements

  • Maintain current certification in 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Regulations and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, including required recurrent training every two years.

  • Complete and maintain required JJ Keller safety and compliance training programs.

  • Participate in and remain compliant with the company's DOT Drug and Alcohol Random Testing Program.

Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Transport, handle, package, and/or ship hazardous materials in accordance with applicable DOT (49 CFR), IATA, and company requirements.

  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and company regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials.

  • Maintain all required licenses, endorsements, certifications, and training records necessary to perform regulated transportation activities.

  • Exercise independent judgment in identifying, reporting, and addressing transportation and safety compliance issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift experience and certification preferred

  • Familiarity with computers and other electronic office and business equipment

  • Written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills sufficient to build and maintain professional relationships

  • Ability to perform tasks in compliance with departmental SOPs as guided by the FDA, ISO9000 and other regulatory requirements

  • Ability to understand product structures, processing requirements and basic accounting

  • Ability to work at repetitive tasks sometimes under pressure

  • Attention to detail
