Bolton Veterinary Hospital is a fast-paced, general and emergency practice with over 20 veterinarians on staff and a support team of over 100! We are proudly privately owned, and have been in operation since 1953. We have amazing employee benefits and a highly dedicated and tenured staff.

We are looking for both Technicians to work hand in hand with our veterinarians during wellness and urgent care exams.


What do you do?

  • Ensure quality, excellent patient care, and client services.
  • Physical examinations
  • Emergency triage/procedures
  • Immunizations
  • Euthanasia as well as client education,
  • Phone triage/client communication
  • Basic cleaning
  • Nail trims
  • Inventory maintenance

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam room with proper cleaning, stocking and disinfection protocols
  • Interact with clients in polite and professional manner
  • Participate in accurate medical records by assisting doctor or maintaining a technician SOAP as appropriate
  • Proper triage and weight on pet
  • Assist doctor in examination using appropriate and fear free restraint techniques
  • Perform treatments according to BVH protocols as directed by doctor including blood draws, administration of vaccines or medications, radiographs
  • Properly requisition lab work and fecal testing
  • Under doctor’s supervision, ability to add or refill a prescription in Infinity, appropriately fill medication including controlled drugs
  • Properly admit a patient to hospital including: appropriate identification, admission paperwork with owner, cage set up, and checking the patient into Instinct program with appropriate admit group orders.
  • Ability to input invoices and check out patients per BVH process
  • When regular CSR team is unavailable: Answering phones & scheduling as appropriate, making calls as needed and assisting clients both checkin in and with discharge process.
Requirements:

All Exam Technicians and Assistants are required to:

  • Perform proficient animal restraint
  • Update medical records as needed
  • Ability to read previous medical records, scan and link, and update patient reminders
  • Communicate with doctors and technicians through notations in medical records
  • Record necessary (highlighted) information for hospitalized patients
  • Create estimates/treatment plans, take home instructions and communicate them effectively and thoroughly, with confidence, to clients
  • Create prescriptions based on doctors instructions including refills, written prescriptions, controlled drugs, chemo drugs
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, pharmacy area, treatment area; all surfaces
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and longevity
  • Keep food and drinks out of treatment area; any place not permitted by OSHA Inventory
  • Log controlled drugs
  • Restock supplies
  • Follow OSHA requirements
  • Follow practice’s health and safety protocols


Education and Experience:

  • Education equivalent to a high school diploma or general education degree; will consider at least 1-3 years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology.? A willingness to pursue further education in the veterinary field is needed.
  • This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical medications (including controlled drugs/chemo), basic laboratory skills, common diseases; their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations.
  • Ability to appropriately handle all animals.
