Purpose of this position:
As the Infection Control Nurse, this individual will be responsible for preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases in our healthcare facility. This includes developing and implementing infection control policies and procedures, conducting surveillance activities, and educating staff and patients on infection control practices. The Infection Control Nurse will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure that high standards of infection prevention and control are maintained and that any risks to the safety and wellbeing of patients and staff are minimized
As the Wound Nurse, this individual would be responsible for assessing, treating, and managing complex wounds, ostomies, and continence conditions. This includes developing personalized care plans, performing specialized treatments and preventing skin breakdown by educating residents, families, and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and monitor infection control policies and procedures
• Participate in the development and implementation of training programs for healthcare staff
• Conduct surveillance activities to identify any potential sources of infection
• Monitor and review infection control practices to ensure compliance with relevant policies and standards
• Advise on the use of personal protective equipment for staff and visitors
• Monitor infection rates within the healthcare setting and report any trends
• Investigate any reported cases of infection and provide advice on prevention and control measures
• Respond to and manage any incidents of infection in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Liaise with public health authorities and other organizations in relation to infection control
• Evaluate wound tissue, drainage, and wound size to track healing progress
• Clean, dress, and perform wound procedures and/or obtain cultures
• Devise and revise individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians and/or interdisciplinary teams
• Act as a resource for floor nurses regarding wound protocols and care.
Requirements and Qualifications
• Registered Nurse license valid in the state of Nebraska
• REQUIRED Nursing home infection preventionist course certification
• Wound Care certification preferred
• Comprehensive knowledge of infection control principles and practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Proficient in the use of computer software programs
• Prior experience as post-acute and long-term care Admissions Coordinator/Intake preferred
• Ability to work independently and with a team
• Be self-driven with excellent internal sales/marketing skills
• Ability to implement the process to achieve desired outcomes
• Possess communication, time management, and organizational skills
• Solid computer skills; working knowledge of MS Office
• Consistently demonstrate responsibility, accountability and dependability.
• Maintain confidentiality of Resident and facility information.
• Consistently work cooperatively with administration, all facility staff, ancillary personnel and consultants.
• Be responsible for safety of Residents under his/her supervision.
• Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
• Be knowledgeable and accountable for all data contained in the team members' handbook.
• Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
• Perform other related duties as directed by the Administrator and/or governing body. Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
• Observe infection control procedures, implement tracking program for residents and staff.
• Follow Residents' Rights policies at all times.
• Come to work as needed and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
• Come to work in neat, clean attire and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance and wear a nametag.
• Consistently work cooperatively with Residents, Residents' representatives, facility staff, physicians, consultants and ancillary service providers.
• Develop, review and revise the facility Quality Assessment and Assurance program to comply with regulatory requirements and continuously improve resident care.
• Must comply with all components of the corporate compliance program.
