How you make a difference

The RN Infection Control proactively prevents the spread of disease and ensures regulatory compliance in staff health management. This position develops and implements infection control plans, including testing, vaccinations, and outbreak response. The role maintains accurate health records, provides staff education, and ensures regulatory adherence through inspections and reporting. It includes conducting risk assessments, making recommendations on cleaning and disinfection practices, and reviewing relevant policies. The RN Infection Control operates independently within a correctional facility and may travel as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement infection control plans, pre-employment testing, and vaccination programs.

  • Coordinate employee health activities including exposure response, outbreak management, and health record maintenance.

  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments, submitting reports and ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Provide staff education and revise policies based on surveillance data and current guidelines.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for infection prevention standards and procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-3 years of experience in nursing or infection prevention, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting

  • Required experience in psychiatric mental health settings and 2-3 years of educator experience preferred

  • Experience in program development, asepsis, microbiology, epidemiology, and hospital operations

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current RN license in the state of employment or compact state

  • CPR certification (must be able to obtain and maintain)

  • Certification in Infection Prevention preferred or to be completed within two years of employment

  • CIC certification preferred
