Description

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, tenants, staff, and visitors in assisted living communities. This role includes routine and deep cleaning of resident rooms, tenant apartments, bathrooms, and all common areas. The Housekeeper ensures compliance with sanitation procedures, safety protocols, and proper chemical usage per SDS (Safety Data Sheets) standards.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sanitation & Environmental Cleanliness:

  • Perform cleaning tasks in resident/tenant apartments and rooms, including:
  • Deep cleans
  • Carpet vacuuming or shampooing
  • Mopping and sweeping floors
  • Dusting furniture and surfaces
  • Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, showers, and sinks
  • Garbage and clutter removal
  • Clean and disinfect common areas including lobbies, dining rooms, hallways, restrooms, and activity spaces.
  • Launder and maintain community linens as needed.

Safety & Protocol Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols, infection control procedures, and sanitation standards to maintain a healthy environment for residents and staff.
  • Use chemicals and cleaning supplies properly in accordance with manufacturer instructions and SDS (Safety Data Sheets).
  • Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when handling chemicals or cleaning high-risk areas.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.

Resident-Focused Service:

  • Clean respectfully and efficiently in occupied resident/tenant spaces.
  • Ensure privacy, dignity, and comfort are maintained at all times.
  • Communicate clearly and courteously with residents, families, and team members.
  • Support a clean and welcoming environment that promotes resident health, safety, and satisfaction.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Participate in ongoing training and mandatory staff meetings.
  • Assist with seasonal or project-based cleaning (e.g., window washing, deep cleaning of high-traffic areas).
  • Assist with cleaning during move-ins and move-outs.
  • Support infection control during illness outbreaks or special sanitation needs.
  • Perform other related housekeeping duties as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director, Administrator or Director.
  • Actively promotes a healthy approach by communicating, interacting, and working cooperatively to meet resident needs.
  • Follow proper protocol during emergency situations.
  • Support a dignified, respectful, and caring atmosphere with residents, residents' families, visitors, and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Experience in housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services preferred, especially in a healthcare or assisted living environment.
  • Ability to safely use and understand chemical cleaning products and SDS guidelines.
  • Able to lift, bend, push, pull, and stand for long periods. (See Physical Requirements)
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Must pass background checks and health screenings required by DHS 83 and DHS 89.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain CBRF/RCAC certifications as needed.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
