What are Inertia Systems?

Inertia Systems refers to a company specializing in construction management software solutions, rather than a specific job title. They provide digital tools and platforms that help construction teams manage projects, documents, and workflows more efficiently. Their software is designed to streamline collaboration and increase productivity on construction sites. People working at Inertia Systems may hold various roles in software development, project management, or customer support within the construction technology industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Systems Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Systems Engineer, you need expertise in systems architecture, integration, troubleshooting, and typically a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Linux/Windows servers, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), and systems modeling software, as well as certifications such as CompTIA or Cisco, are often required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. These capabilities ensure the successful design, implementation, and maintenance of complex technology systems that meet organizational goals.

What is the difference between Inertia Systems vs Mechanical Technicians?

AspectInertia SystemsMechanical Technicians
CertificationsOften requires technical certifications in systems or electrical workTypically requires HVAC, mechanical, or technical certifications
Work EnvironmentPrimarily in industrial, manufacturing, or automation settingsMostly in maintenance, manufacturing, or construction sites
Industry UsageUsed in automation, robotics, and system integrationUsed in machinery repair, installation, and maintenance

Inertia Systems specialists focus on automation and system integration, often requiring electrical and technical certifications, working mainly in industrial environments. Mechanical Technicians handle machinery maintenance and repair, with a focus on mechanical systems. Both roles are essential in manufacturing but differ in their technical focus and work settings.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working with Inertia Systems software in the construction industry?

Professionals using Inertia Systems software in construction often encounter challenges related to ensuring seamless real-time collaboration among diverse project stakeholders, such as architects, contractors, and field teams. Adapting to new digital workflows and integrating Inertia Systems with existing tools can require an initial learning curve and proactive communication. Additionally, maintaining data accuracy and version control across multiple devices and locations is crucial for minimizing project delays and errors. However, mastering these aspects can lead to greater efficiency and improved project outcomes.

Job description

Optical Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Optical Engineer to advance high power laser system design and testing capabilities for Inertia's fusion energy program. A key element is development of the world's highest average power pulsed lasers, which will form the 'unit cell' of our power plant. In partnership with industry, government and academia, we will build a demonstrator beamline to deliver 10 kJ at 10 Hz with 10% wall-plug efficiency using diode-pumped solid state laser technology (DPSSL).

This position initially involves the design of optical test facilities, and subsequent co-design of the integrated beamline systems.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop creative optical designs for beyond state-of-the-art high-average power laser systems
  • Perform ray-tracing and stray light analysis for a wide range of optical systems design.
  • Undertake optical analysis (hot spots, ghosts, stray light, beam profiles)
  • Interface with mechanical engineering design teams for integrated systems
  • Create optical prints and work with supply chain

What You'll Bring:

  • BS or MS in Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in optical design relevant to high energy lasers
  • Strong expertise in the use of optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V, FRED, etc.

Salary & Benefits:

  • The base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $215,000; The pay range provided is an estimated base range for this role. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and education.
  • We offer market-competitive compensation and an excellent benefits program, including Medical, Dental, and Vision plans, company-paid holidays, matching 401k, and more!
