Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to on-site medical emergencies, injuries, and occupational illnesses within the refinery.
  • Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) care within EMT scope of practice.
  • Perform patient assessments and determine appropriate care and response actions.
  • Coordinate with local EMS providers for Advanced Life Support (ALS) response and patient transport when necessary.
  • Maintain and manage on-site medical equipment, trauma kits, and response supplies.
  • Document patient care reports and incident records accurately and promptly.
  • Participate in site safety meetings, emergency response planning, and safety drills.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and medical response planning for industrial hazards.
  • Work closely with rescue technicians, safety personnel, and refinery staff during incidents.
  • Maintain readiness for rapid response in a high-risk industrial environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid California EMT certification, issued by Contra Costa County
  • or California Certification with Contra Costa EMS Scope
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers (AHA) certification.
  • Ability to pass all required refinery and contractor safety training after hire.
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment including refineries, and construction sites.
  • TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential, a security card required for access to secure facilities)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in industrial, refinery, oil & gas, or construction environments.
  • Previous experience with standby medical coverage, industrial EMS, or remote site medicine.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergency incidents across large industrial facilities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move patients and medical equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including helmet, gloves, safety glasses, and respiratory protection when required.

Work Environment
This position operates in a heavy industrial refinery environment. Personnel may be exposed to hazards. All work is conducted in accordance with refinery safety policies and Code Red Safety operational procedures.
