Job description

Overview:
The Indoor Playground Supervisor is a seasonal position. We offer competitive compensation, and PTO for seasonal employees.
Job Purpose:
The Indoor Playground Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a positive, safe, kid-friendly environment by: effectively assisting customers, opening and closing the facility, and communicating Park District rules, regulations and policies with participants and patrons. Duties such as leading themed activities, story time and crafts as well as assisting with birthday party set-up and supervision is required. This position oversees cash handling operations and pass holder transactions, during daily visits. Indoor Playground Supervisor will provide quality customer service to the families, park patrons, and Park District staff.
Essential Functions:
• Open, close and prepare the Indoor Playground space for daily visitors. This includes locking/unlocking doors, cleaning equipment, and preparing the registration system.
• Maintain cleanliness of park district desk, building, bathrooms and equipment during program hours. Includes sweeping, mopping, removing garbage, and sanitizing equipment.
• Assist customers with registration inquiries, including suggesting programs and services that are appropriate for registrants' age, ability, interests, and availability.
• Act resourcefully and proactively to gather programming information from sources including the program brochure, website, newsletters and from staff in order to provide the public with the most up-to-date information.
• Accept and verify indoor playground season passes and daily drop-ins.
• Plan and lead themed activities, story time and crafts .
• Assist with birthday party set-up and supervision.
• Communicate any program or hours of operation changes to patrons, including updating desk copy brochures, program flyers, and bulletin board displays.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and participants.
• Conduct regular visual safety inspections of indoor playground and desk areas as well as equipment. Conduct written inspection upon request.
• Work effectively with internal and external customers, recognize diverse opinions and needs, and maintain a positive working relationship with all employees.
Additional Functions:
• Light maintenance and custodial duties.
• Shovel snow and de-ice walkways and stairs, as needed.
• Inspect restrooms and facility common areas. Address any issues and report to supervisor.
• Enter and update the daily drop in attendance and pass holder participation; run close out reports at the end of each day.
• Maintain program flyer display racks in lobbies adjacent to assigned work area and bulletin boards.
• Attend necessary staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Assist when needed with special projects, programs, and events.
• Experience working with and supervising children.
• Ability to take initiative and problem solve.
• Computer and software proficiency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience Required:
• Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
Recommended:
• Additional college, early childhood, or trade education preferred.
Work Environment, Physical Demands and Considerations:
• Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Ability to endure prolonged standing, sitting on the floor, kneeling at child's level, and hands on interaction during program hours.
• Assist in the set up and take down of program materials and equipment.
• In case of emergency be able to respond quickly and appropriately with children's safety in mind.
• Will be exposed to occasional inclement weather including heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind.
• Will be exposed to dust and cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise manner.
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively and to read and understand printed material.
• Ability to communicate and represent the Park District in a professional manner.
