Job description

The Manager of Tribal Relations will lead Twin Metals’ engagement and relationship-building with Tribal Nations and communities, with a particular focus on the 1854 Treaty Territory. The role will develop and execute engagement plans, support cultural resource protection and permitting, and build durable, good-faith relationships with Tribal Nations and communities.

The Manager of Tribal Relations will report to the VP External Relations and Project Operations, or to any other individual or individuals designated by the Company from time to time, in accordance with the Twin Metals organizational structure. The position will be employed by Twin Metals Minnesota LLC (“Twin Metals”) and based in its Ely, Minnesota, office. The expectation is to report to the office; however, a hybrid schedule may be accommodated to meet the needs of team members who are not located in the immediate area. The role may require significant travel and participation in events outside normal working hours.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Strongly support and adhere to company safety and environmental requirements and protocols
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute Twin Metals’ Tribal engagement plans in Minnesota and other areas as appropriate
  • Provide professional advice, counsel, and coordination on Tribal relations, local inclusion, and community benefits
  • Build and maintain good-faith relationships with, and support the negotiation of agreements with, Tribal Nations and communities
  • Coordinate Tribal engagement, cultural resource protection, and economic inclusion
  • Assist with coordinating internal and external processes as they relate to the federal trust consultation framework
  • Participate in industry best-practices forums
  • Coach, mentor, and educate a cross-disciplinary team on Tribal relations
  • Manage and report on project budgets

Qualifications

Required

  • Post-secondary degree in business, communications, Tribal/Indigenous studies, environmental policy, natural resources, law, or social sciences — or an equivalent combination of education and lived or professional experience — with relevant experience in the resources sector
  • 5–10 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of Tribal rights and cultures, with specific knowledge of the 1854 Treaty Territory
  • Experience in Indigenous engagement and cross-cultural community relations
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with Tribal governments, Indigenous communities, and local community groups
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed

Preferred

  • Lived experience within the 1854 Treaty Territory
  • Experience working for or with Tribal Nations and familiarity with the 1854 Treaty Territory
  • Military leadership experience, veteran service, or comparable experience leading teams in complex, mission-driven environments
