Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) values strong relationships with parents and the community. School volunteers bring valuable skills and experiences that enhance students' learning opportunities. The following guidelines are provided to ensure student safety and the productivity of volunteer efforts.


Prior to initiating your volunteer journey, it's crucial to reach out to the specific site where you wish to contribute. This will help you identify the most suitable volunteer opportunities. If your application is submitted and approved, IPS Human Resources will determine your Tier level and guide you through the next steps.


Our volunteer services are structured into Tiers, each with its own level of student interaction, visit frequency, and assigned tasks. The requirements, including background and/or Department of Child Services (“DCS”) checks, may vary depending on the Tier. Please note that volunteers are responsible for any associated fees.
