Job description

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing 2026-2027 School Year
Purpose:  The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) provides specially designed instruction and consultative services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) to ensure access to the curriculum and progress toward IEP goals in compliance with IDEA and state regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:
 








  • Degree in Deaf Education or related field required
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Valid state of Delaware certification/licensure as a Teacher of Students Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (#1574)
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Knowledge of IDEA and special education procedures
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Clean Criminal Background Check, TB Test, and Child Protection Registry Clearance must be completed prior to Start of Employment.
  • Employee will be required to work in-person, providing services across a variety of school settings and may be required to travel among multiple IRSD school locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative special education services aligned to IEPs
  • Support students' communication, auditory, and academic development
  • Collaborate with IEP teams, families, general education staff, audiologists, and related service providers
  • Assist with data collection, evaluations, progress monitoring, and development of IEP goals
  • Attend IEP meetings and other instructional or professional development meetings
  • Recommend and support accommodations, assistive listening devices, and classroom strategies
  • Differentiate instruction for students using various communication modalities
  • Maintain required documentation and service records
  • Other duties as assigned determined by district or student need
