Job description

Job Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the Nutrition Director and guidance of the Title VI Manager, the Cook/Transporter supports the mission of the Sonoma County Indian Health Project, Inc. (SCIHP) by assisting in the preparation and service of nutritious meals while ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming food service environment. This position also plays a key role in providing transportation services for seniors and making deliveries.

Qualifications:

  • Works with Title VI Manager to develop menus that meet the daily nutritional requirements for older adults, assures minimal food waste and offers constant feedback to team regarding needs.
  • Leads the team in the kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, serving and cleanup.
  • Prior experience in the food service industry required, with 1 to 3 years’ experience with meal preparation and nutrition.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen operations.
  • Current Food Handlers Certificate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public health, safety and proper food handling and sanitation standards and procedures.
  • Leads the Senior Site team in the kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, serving appropriate portions to senior site participants.
  • Understanding of modifications needed for low-sodium, low-carbohydrate, and low-fat meal recommendations.
  • Ensuring that all kitchen operations comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with management on menu planning and special events.
  • Must maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license.
  • Possess current CPR certification.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • You must be comfortable working in hot, noisy, and fast-paced conditions.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background investigation.
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provide safe and reliable transportation for seniors and deliveries.
