Independent Manager information

How does an Independent Manager typically interact with other stakeholders to ensure effective governance?

As an Independent Manager, you play a crucial role in collaborating with legal counsel, company executives, and sometimes lenders to provide objective oversight and ensure compliance with governance requirements. You may be involved in reviewing and approving major company decisions, particularly in situations involving restructuring, bankruptcy, or sensitive transactions. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential, as you must balance stakeholder interests while upholding fiduciary duties. This collaborative approach not only safeguards the company’s integrity but also enhances your professional network and expertise in complex business environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Independent Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Independent Manager, you need strong leadership abilities, business acumen, and experience in overseeing operations, often supported by a background in management or a relevant degree. Familiarity with project management software, financial analysis tools, and CRM systems is typically required. Excellent communication, decision-making, and self-motivation are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively guiding teams, managing projects, and ensuring organizational success with minimal supervision.

What are the 7 types of managers?

In management, there are generally seven common types: top-level managers (executives), middle managers (department heads), first-line managers (supervisors), functional managers (specialists in a specific area), project managers (oversee specific projects), general managers (oversee multiple functions), and team managers (lead specific teams). Each type requires different skills and responsibilities, and understanding these roles helps in career development and organizational structure. Independent managers often operate across these types, focusing on strategic planning, team leadership, and operational oversight.

How to become a manager without management experience?

To become an independent manager without prior management experience, focus on developing leadership skills, gaining relevant industry knowledge, and demonstrating responsibility in your current role. Pursuing certifications such as project management or leadership training can also enhance your qualifications and show your readiness for management responsibilities.

What type of manager gets paid the most?

Senior executive managers, such as chief executive officers (CEOs), chief financial officers (CFOs), and chief operating officers (COOs), typically earn the highest salaries among managers. These roles require extensive experience, leadership skills, and often involve overseeing large organizations or departments, with compensation often including bonuses and stock options.

What is an Independent Manager?

An Independent Manager is a neutral third party appointed to serve on the board of managers or directors of a company, particularly in situations where impartial decision-making is required. Their primary role is to provide unbiased oversight and help resolve conflicts of interest, especially in financially distressed companies or during significant transactions. Independent Managers are often required by lenders or other stakeholders to ensure that the company's decisions are made in the best interest of all parties and comply with legal and fiduciary duties. They may also help prevent fraudulent or preferential transfers in bankruptcy scenarios.

Surf On Demand is the private charter brokerage and private airline division of Surf Air Mobility, a publicly traded aviation and mobility company (NYSE: SRFM). We operate a high-volume, performance-driven aviation platform offering on-demand cargo and passenger charter solutions worldwide.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for ambitious, entrepreneurial professionals to join Surf On Demand as

Independent Cargo Charter Brokers.

This is a commission-only, 1099 independent contractor position — ideal for experienced cargo brokers, freight forwarders, logistics professionals, or driven entrepreneurs ready to leverage our global brand, SurfOS software platform, and 24/7 operational support to build and scale their own cargo charter business.

As an Independent Cargo Charter Broker, you’ll have full control over your client relationships, schedule, and business development strategy — while benefiting from the infrastructure and credibility of a publicly traded aviation company.

What You’ll Do

● Develop and manage a portfolio of cargo clients including freight forwarders, logistics providers, manufacturers, and time-critical shippers.

● Source, structure, and close domestic and international cargo charter opportunities (ad hoc and program-based).

● Coordinate air freight solutions including oversized cargo, dangerous goods (DG), AOG (Aircraft on Ground), and time-critical shipments.

● Provide consultative logistics solutions tailored to client timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements.

● Utilize Surf On Demand’s SurfOS platform for quoting, trip coordination, and CRM tracking.

● Collaborate with our 24/7 operations team to ensure seamless execution from pickup through delivery.

● Build and maintain relationships with carriers, operators, and logistics partners globally.

● Represent Surf On Demand and Surf Air brands professionally in client interactions, industry events, and partner engagements.

What You’ll Get

● Uncapped Commission Potential: Industry-leading payouts with no earning limits.

● Autonomy & Flexibility: Operate independently, manage your own schedule, and work from anywhere.

● Inbound Lead Option: Access qualified inbound cargo opportunities in exchange for a reduced commission split.

● 24/7 Global Operations Support: Expert team handling flight following, permits, handling, and logistics coordination.

● Extensive Carrier Network: Access to a global network of vetted cargo operators with competitive wholesale pricing.

● Full Back-Office Infrastructure: Contracts, invoicing, compliance, and financial settlements managed for you.

● SurfOS Technology Platform: Proprietary system for real-time quoting, workflow management, and client tracking.

● Global Brand Credibility: Partner with Surf Air Mobility (NYSE: SRFM), a recognized name in aviation and mobility.

Who You Are

● Experienced in air cargo charter, freight forwarding, logistics, or high-value B2B sales.

● Existing book of business or strong industry network preferred (freight forwarders, 3PLs, shippers).

● Knowledge of cargo aircraft types, payload capabilities, and routing/logistics considerations.

● Familiarity with aviation and cargo platforms such as Avinode, CargoWise, or similar tools is a plus.

● Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and client relationship management skills.

● Entrepreneurial, self-driven, and comfortable operating in a commission-only environment.

● Ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines in a fast-paced, time-critical environment.

Why Partner with Surf On Demand

● Global reach, local freedom: Build your own cargo brokerage under a publicly traded brand.

● Unlimited earning potential: Scale your income directly with your performance.

● Robust support infrastructure: 24/7 ops, finance, and technology designed to help you succeed.

● Industry connectivity: Collaborate with a network of experienced brokers and logistics professionals.
