The Leonardo DRS Land Systems business is a recognized leader in the design and integration of complex technologies into new and legacy systems and platforms for global military and commercial customers. We are a 6 year running Top Workplace in the Greater St. Louis area.
Job Summary
Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full time Manager, Software Engineer that will be responsible for supervising a team of software engineers, on activities and the completion of the activities on time and budget. This position is based out of our Bridgeton, MO facility and will have the option to work an in person or hybrid schedule. The software engineers are responsible to design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, or subsystems. This role must also have the ability to complete a technical project independently and to mentor and/or coach other engineers. Responsible for employee development efforts and new employee recruiting when necessary.
Job Responsibilities
  • Manage/Supervise and direct the work of a software engineering team responsible for driving technology through means of design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, or subsystems
  • Manage budget, cost and schedule input and design assignments for the software department
  • Work closely with staff to conceptualize systems and software technical designs
  • Mentor and/or coach either within or outside of direct staff
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
  • Ability to supervise a group independently, provide assistance to staff; communicate work priorities; verify accuracy of work and engineering employee development
  • Drive the program design to cost and design
  • Document component and subsystem specifications requirements
  • Participate in preparation of proposals
  • Responsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements
  • Support and participate in technical engineering support activities, such as design reviews
  • Perform the design, development, modification, analysis, and/or documentation of various software systems
  • Participate in resolution of technical issues within the company and outside suppliers
  • Attend and participate in appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience
  • Demonstrated people and technical leadership capabilities
  • Proven Computer Science fundamentals in embedded development, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Experience in one of the following: C, C++, C# and/or Java
  • Experience with Linux/Unix is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of complex software systems through successful customer delivery
  • Ability to apply technical expertise to lead software engineering team through solving complex embedded design problems
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience influencing software engineering best practices within the team
  • Experience continuously improve engineering practices for the software platform to support efficiency, reliability, and serviceability goals
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to develop a strong technical platform vision that encourages team members to build configuration driven platform tools to allow the principles of the team to scale throughout the organization
  • Ability to be a strong mentor of peers and direct reports

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
The salary range for this position is $130,828.00/year- $176,618.00/year for the state of Illinois. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate's qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable.
