What is an independent contractor researcher?

An Independent Contractor Researcher is a self-employed professional who conducts research for clients on a project-by-project basis. They typically gather, analyze, and synthesize information in various fields, such as market research, academic studies, or investigative reporting. Unlike traditional employees, independent researchers set their own schedules, negotiate contracts, and manage their own business operations. This role requires strong analytical skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to work independently.

What is a typical work structure or workflow like for an independent contractor researcher?

Independent Contractor Researchers often manage their own schedules and projects, working remotely or from home. They typically receive research briefs or project outlines from clients, conduct literature reviews or gather data, analyze findings, and prepare detailed reports or presentations. Collaboration may occur virtually with clients or other researchers, requiring effective communication and periodic updates. While the autonomy offers flexibility, contractors are responsible for managing deadlines, administrative tasks, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of their work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an independent contractor researcher?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor Researcher, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in data collection and evaluation, and at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, business, or market research. Experience with research databases, statistical software (like SPSS or Excel), and citation management tools is often required, along with any industry-specific certifications. Excellent time management, written communication, and self-motivation skills help independent researchers stand out in balancing multiple projects and client relationships. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality, timely research findings while maintaining professional standards as a self-managed contractor.

Can you work from home as an independent contractor researcher?

Yes, independent contractor researchers often have the flexibility to work from home, as their tasks typically involve data analysis, literature reviews, or online research that can be performed remotely. Successful remote work usually requires strong communication skills, self-discipline, and familiarity with digital tools such as spreadsheets, databases, or research software.

Job description

Registered Nurse Case Manager (RN) – Workers' Compensation

1099 Independent Contractor | South Florida | Flexible, Field-Based Role

About The IMA Group
The IMA Group has spent over three decades helping injured and disabled individuals get back on their feet — partnering with employers, carriers, and government agencies across the country to deliver trusted medical case management. We're expanding our South Florida presence and seeking skilled RN Case Managers to serve the Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe County areas on a flexible 1099 basis.

The Opportunity
Step into a role built for experienced nurses who want independence without sacrificing impact:

  • Set your own schedule and manage a flexible caseload
  • Work autonomously as a trusted clinical consultant
  • Skip the bedside shifts — no nights, weekends, or on-call
  • Blend field visits with remote documentation work
  • Tap into a reliable referral pipeline and a support team that has your back

Your Impact
You'll be the clinical thread connecting injured workers, physicians, employers, and attorneys — keeping recovery on track and return-to-work goals within reach:

  • Manage and monitor medical treatment plans
  • Join medical appointments to track progress firsthand
  • Liaise with providers, adjusters, employers, and legal teams
  • Evaluate medical necessity and quality of care
  • Draft clear, timely case management documentation
  • Guide return-to-work and transitional duty strategies
  • Arrange IMEs and site evaluations as cases require

What We're Looking For

  • Active Florida RN license
  • 3+ years in Workers' Comp field case management
  • Sharp clinical judgment and strong communication skills
  • Self-starter who thrives with a flexible caseload
  • Comfortable with digital documentation platforms
  • Reliable transportation across South Florida
  • Malpractice coverage, current or obtainable
  • CCM, CRRN, or similar credential a plus — Spanish/English bilingual candidates strongly encouraged

Work Type: 1099 Independent Contractor | Flexible caseload

Bring your clinical expertise to a role designed around your terms. Apply today.

The IMA Group is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.

Our Government Services Division supports local, state, and federal agencies and delivers professional and objective medical and psychological examinations as well as ancillary services. Our Payer Services Division meets the evaluation and screening needs of Carriers, TPAs, Public Entities and Employers and includes behavioral health and physical medicine specialty services, working with a wide range of organizations within the workers' compensation, disability, liability, and auto markets. Our Clinical Research Division performs all types of Phase II-IV clinical trials in multiple therapeutic areas through a flexible nationwide network of site locations and virtual capabilities. #LI-BC1 #LI-HYBRID
