What is a live streaming job?

A Live Streaming job involves broadcasting real-time video content over the internet to engage an audience. This can include gaming, interviews, product demonstrations, or entertainment. Live streamers interact with viewers through chat, answer questions, and create engaging content to build a loyal following. Many streamers work independently, while others are hired by companies to promote products or host events. Success in this field often requires good presentation skills, technical knowledge, and audience engagement strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a live streaming role?

To thrive in Live Streaming, you need expertise in video production, audio engineering, and digital content creation, often supported by experience with streaming platforms like Twitch, YouTube Live, or OBS Studio. Technical proficiency with live broadcast software, professional-grade cameras, and audio equipment is essential, and some employers may prefer certifications in media production or broadcasting. Strong communication, creativity, and quick problem-solving skills help set top live streamers apart. These abilities ensure engaging, high-quality broadcasts and the ability to adapt to technical or audience challenges in real time.

What are the main challenges faced in a live streaming role, and how can they be managed?

Live Streaming professionals often face challenges such as technical glitches, fluctuating audience engagement, and maintaining consistent streaming schedules. Managing these challenges requires a solid understanding of broadcasting software and equipment, as well as the ability to troubleshoot issues quickly while staying composed on camera. Building a supportive online community and planning engaging content in advance can help maximize viewer retention and loyalty. Additionally, collaborating with other content creators and networking within the streaming community can open doors to growth and learning opportunities. Staying updated on industry trends and continuously refining your presentation style are also valuable strategies for long-term success.

Can I get paid for live streaming?

Live streaming jobs often pay through platforms that monetize content, such as ad revenue, viewer donations, subscriptions, or sponsorships. Earnings depend on factors like audience size, engagement, and the platform used, and some streamers earn a full-time income while others do it as a side activity.

Job description

OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY
Fox TV Stations
FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network's national content.
JOB DESCRIPTION
WTVT FOX 13 Tampa is looking for the next generation of streaming talent to help shape the future of local news. We are seeking a digitally native journalist and dynamic on-air personality to produce and host live streaming content for our growing streaming platform, with a primary focus on evening and breaking news coverage.
This is not a traditional television role. We're looking for someone who understands how audiences consume news on digital platforms, thrives in a live environment, and can create compelling, conversational content without relying on a teleprompter. You'll be responsible for the end-to-end execution of live streams, serving as both the on-camera host and producer while making smart editorial decisions and engaging viewers in real time.
If you understand streaming workflows, live video production, audience engagement, and breaking news coverage, this is an opportunity to help define the future of local journalism.
Key Responsibilities
  • Produce and host live streaming programming focused on evening and breaking news coverage.
  • Own the end-to-end production of live streams and VOD content, including editorial planning, technical execution, and on-air presentation.
  • Operate streaming production tools including live switching, encoding, clipping, publishing, and real-time troubleshooting.
  • Engage directly with viewers through live chat and audience interaction to create an authentic, community-driven experience.
  • Make strong editorial decisions in real time, adjusting coverage as news develops and audience interests evolve.
  • Collaborate with newsroom leadership, digital, social, assignment desk, producers, and production teams to align coverage and maximize content across platforms.
  • Pitch original story ideas, cultivate sources, and help shape future streaming coverage alongside newsroom leadership and Streaming Managers.
  • Conduct interviews with newsmakers, experts, and community leaders during live programming.
  • Maintain high journalistic standards while ensuring all content meets legal, ethical, and FOX Television Stations guidelines.
  • Fill time confidently during breaking news, developing situations, or technical interruptions while maintaining viewer engagement.
  • Occasionally contribute to linear broadcasts as newsroom needs dictate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in digital news, streaming, reporting, MMJ work, producing, or live content creation preferred.
  • Strong on-camera presence with the ability to communicate naturally in unscripted live environments.
  • Demonstrated experience producing digital video, live streams, or social-first news content.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to make fast editorial decisions under deadline pressure.
  • Technical proficiency with live streaming workflows including switching, encoding, publishing, clipping, and distribution. Experience with TriCaster and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus, but the ability to learn new technology quickly is essential.
  • Experience engaging digital audiences and understanding audience retention across streaming platforms.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Background in journalism, broadcast media, digital media, or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours as breaking news demands.

What Will Make You Stand Out
  • A reel showcasing strong live hosting ability and conversational storytelling.
  • Experience building streaming communities and engaging audiences in real time.
  • A passion for experimenting with new storytelling formats and digital platforms.
  • The ability to seamlessly balance hosting, producing, technical execution, and editorial decision-making during live broadcasts.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories consistent with applicable law.
Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $85,000.00-95,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
