Job description

HealthRIGHT 360 gives hope, builds health, and changes lives for people in need by providing comprehensive, integrated, compassionate care that includes primary medical care, mental health services, and substance use disorder treatment.
We are seeking experienced Addiction Medicine Physicians (MD or DO) to join our growing network of independent contractor providers supporting our withdrawal management and residential behavioral health programs. This is a flexible 1099 contractor opportunity with fully remote and hybrid options available.
This opportunity allows physicians to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals in recovery while maintaining flexibility and independence. Providers work alongside dedicated interdisciplinary teams committed to improving health outcomes for some of California's most vulnerable populations.
HealthRIGHT 360 welcomes physicians from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about addiction medicine, recovery, and health equity.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Contract Physician (CP) is primarily responsible for the following: 1) management of intoxication and withdrawal states, 2) the initiation and monitoring of Medically Assisted Treatment, 3) the evaluation and management of addiction-related medical and psychiatric problems. The CP is responsible for conducting medical histories, performing physical examinations, applying screening tools, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and completing standard documentation related to the treatment of addiction. They are responsible for working in collaboration with medical and behavioral health staff in Intake Department, Withdrawal Management Program, Residential and/or Outpatient Programs. They provide direct patient care within HealthRIGHT 360's Intake Department, Withdrawal Management Program, and/or Residential Programs. The CP also provides clinical support to the MAT healthcare treatment team. This clinical support may include managing Medical Assistants and Nurse functions.
Contract physicians may support multiple HealthRIGHT 360 programs and sites based on organizational need and provider availability.
Schedule & Work Arrangement
  • 1099 Independent Contractor Agreement
  • Fully remote (hybrid and onsite opportunities available if requested)
  • Minimum availability of 16 hours per week
  • Hours scheduled Monday through Friday during normal business hours (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
  • No routine overnight call requirements
  • Ability to provide coverage across multiple programs and locations

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Skills & Medicine Responsibilities:
  • Determine the severity of drug and alcohol use based on current DSM criteria.
  • Evaluate and treat drug and alcohol related withdrawal with medications.
  • Determine appropriate ASAM Level of Care based on ASAM criteria
  • Assess clients for clearance to enter withdrawal management and prescribe appropriate medication to support the withdrawal process.
  • Prescribe medication-assisted treatment to aid in recovery goals.
  • Evaluate clients in Withdrawal Management and Residential Programs who return to using substances.
  • Evaluate clients in Withdrawal Management and Residential Programs who return from the ED or Hospital due to an overdose or any other medical condition.
  • Monitor clients in the Withdrawal Management Program to ensure safe and effective treatment.
  • Assist clients with state disability insurance applications during the residential program treatment.
  • Conduct physical examinations for clearance for the Residential Program
  • Interpret Urinary Drug Screens
  • Monitor clients in Residential Programming for medication-assisted treatment compliance.
  • Assist Health & Wellness staff with inquiries about medications.
  • Educates clients on opioid reversal and Narcan Use.
  • Analyzes and interprets patient history, symptoms, physical findings, and/or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Maintains complete and detailed records of medical history, assessment, and health care plans.
  • Uses motivational interviewing or recovery coaching
  • Collaboration with behavior health teams.
  • Sees patients on a set schedule, maximizing access to care.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required:
  • M.D. or D. O. degree from an accredited United States medical school.
  • Successfully completed internship and residency at an accredited United States Internship or Residency Program.

Certification/Licensure:
  • Board certified in family medicine or internal medicine AND/OR
  • Board certified or registered in addiction medicine, or equivalent experience with other specialty Board certification.
  • Valid and active California medical license,
  • Eligible to participate in the CMS Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement programs.
  • Valid and active DEA license

Other requirements:
  • Clinical experience working with people who have experienced addiction, homelessness, incarceration, and trauma.
  • Experience providing addiction treatment to pregnant populations as appropriate.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and telehealth platforms.
  • Must be willing to support multiple HealthRIGHT 360 programs and sites based on organizational need and provider availability

Desired
  • Training in motivational interviewing or recovery coaching
  • Advanced knowledge in primary care-based psychiatry
  • Experience with Welligent EHR
  • Working proficiency of threshold language to provide patient care (bilingual Spanish preferred)
  • Selected contractors must complete and maintain all applicable credentialing and onboarding requirements.

Selected contractors must provide their own malpractice coverage, which will be verified through the credentialing process.
