Job description

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and professional environment throughout the administrative offices and designated common areas of the sawmill facility. This position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, housekeeping, and minor facility upkeep to support employees, visitors, and daily operations while promoting a positive workplace environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain administrative offices, conference rooms, breakrooms, restrooms, hallways, entryways, and other common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize floors, furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated collection areas.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, replenish paper products, soap, and other supplies.
  • Maintain breakrooms and kitchen areas, including cleaning appliances, counters, tables, and sinks.
  • Clean interior glass, windows, doors, and other high-touch surfaces.
  • Monitor custodial supply inventory and notify supervision when replenishment is needed.
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Assist with periodic deep-cleaning projects and special cleaning assignments.
  • Perform occasional touch-up painting and minor facility upkeep as assigned.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • Report building maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or repair needs to the appropriate department.
  • Support a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement through consistent housekeeping and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and interact respectfully with employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or industrial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage daily responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain consistent attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safe work practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods while performing custodial duties.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in office and industrial manufacturing environments.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a schedule primarily aligned with normal production and operating hours to support mill cleaning activities. Candidates must be willing to work weekends, and occasional nights based on operational needs. This position requires working in both office and industrial settings within a wood products manufacturing facility. Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and industrial equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided. Compensation for this position ranges from $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
