Job description

Residential Generator Sales Representative

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Generation & Sales

  • Proactively identify and generate new sales opportunities through cold calling, networking, and referrals, as well as respond to inbound inquiries.

Annual Sales Budget

  • Develop and meet annual budget for area of responsibility

4-Year Budget Outlook

  • Provide management 4-year outlook for budget growth in area of responsibility including opportunities, threats and overview of the competitive landscape

Customer Consultation & Assessment

  • Conduct on-site or virtual consultations to assess customer power needs, educate them on the benefits of standby power, and recommend appropriate Kohler Residential generator systems.
  • Engage electrical contractors through on-site meetings or virtual consultations to educate customers about the convenience of standby power.
  • Leverage partnered brands' benefits to build customer trust and accelerate the closing process.

Proposal & Quote Preparation

  • Prepare and present detailed quotes, proposals, and credit lines, ensuring accurate project estimates and adherence to local and national installation codes.

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers, contractors, and internal teams (installation, service, technical experts) to ensure a smooth project handoff and high customer satisfaction.

Product Expertise & Training

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Generator products, including features, warranties, promotions, and service plans, and participate in ongoing product and sales training.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed and organized records of all client communication and sales activities using a CRM system (e.g., Salesforce) and track progress toward sales goals.

Marketing Support

  • Represent the company at trade shows, community events, and expos to enhance brand awareness and generate leads.


Qualifications & Skills:

Experience

  • Proven experience in sales, preferably in generator sales, electrical contracting, HVAC, or related home/commercial equipment sales.

Technical Aptitude

  • A basic understanding of electrical systems, power requirements, and the ability to read technical documents and blueprints.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical customers.

Self-Motivation

  • A results-oriented, self-starter mindset with strong time management and problem-solving skills, capable of managing an independent sales pipeline and schedule.

Computer Literacy

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience using CRM software and other relevant sales tools.

Education

  • A high school diploma or GED is typically required; a bachelors degree in business or a related field is a plus.

Other Requirements

  • A valid driver's license for conducting on-site visits is often necessary.
