Job description

Are you a high-energy performer who loves bringing characters to life? EPIC is looking for enthusiastic, reliable subcontract Mascot Performers in the Birmingham area to represent a local company as their mascot character.


EPIC provides high-quality entertainment and event production globally. We use positive entertainment to impact communities and families, and we are looking for dedicated performers to join our network. As a subcontractor, you will step into the costume for specific appearance requests, bringing joy and a professional presence to every event.

Requirements

  • Rapid Response: Respond to new appearance booking requests within 24 hours of receiving the invite.

  • Reliable & Punctual: Extremely punctual with a proven track record of dependability.

  • Professional Etiquette: Demonstrates excellent professional etiquette and arrives in proper, appropriate attire.

  • Animation Skills: Strong skills in character animation, physical comedy, and non-verbal audience engagement.

  • Responsive: Highly communicative and quick to reply to logistics, updates, and booking requests.


  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform with high energy inside a heavy, hot mascot costume for up to 60–75 minutes per appearance session.

  • Height Requirement: Candidates must ideally fall within the 5'7" to 6'0" (170 to 183 cm) range to properly fit the manufactured dimensions of the corporate costume and ensure safe visibility.

  • Mobility & Lifting: Ability to stand, walk, animate, and jump for extended periods, as well as lift and transport mascot gear bags weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Reliable Transportation: Must possess a reliable personal vehicle with sufficient cargo space to transport one to two large duffel bags to and from appearance locations.

  • Technology: Must own a reliable smartphone with internet access to manage on-site client communication and complete mandatory post-event reporting.

  • Background Check: Must be willing to undergo and pass a standard criminal background check, as appearances frequently involve interfacing with families and children.

  • Employment Status: This is an independent contractor (1099) position. Compensation is paid on a flat rate/per appearance basis, and assignments are booked on an on-call, as-needed basis depending on client demand. For performers with flexible schedules, multiple paid opportunities are available per month.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prompt Arrival: Arrive at appearances at least 30 minutes beforehand.

  • Mascot Performance: Perform as a high-energy corporate mascot for live events, engaging audiences through strong animation and non-verbal communication.

  • Costume & Prop Care: Keep the mascot costume and props clean, presentable, and well-maintained for every single appearance.

  • Maintenance Reporting: Promptly notify EPIC of any costume or prop items that need replacement or professional repair.

  • Proactive Communication: Maintain excellent pre- and post-appearance communication with both EPIC and the client. This includes calling or texting the onsite contact prior to the event and filling out post-event appearance surveys.
