Job description

Position Summary

Action Freight is looking to add team members for our Independent Contract Driver operation. We are a local pickup and delivery company servicing the greater San Antonio area and are looking for someone with the following skills and attributes. Independent Contractors are owner operators and therefore independent businesspersons. Candidates must provide their own delivery vehicle 20-26 foot box truck with liftgate and material handling equipment. Vehicle sub-lease opportunities may be available

  • Regular scheduled attendance, punctuality and dependable transportation is a must. We have morning and evening shifts available and can offer flexible schedule and shift assignments. Absences and tardiness negatively impact operations and must be kept to a minimum. On call rotation one weekend per month, additional compensation provided for on call shift.
  • Positive attitude, team oriented and a good work ethic.
  • Local San Antonio Area Pickup and Delivery of cargo both business and residential.
  • Safely operate delivery vehicle.
  • The contractor’s delivery vehicle must be road worthy and safe to operate. Cargo area (box, trailer of cargo van space) must be dry with no holes in floor, sides, or roof.
  • The contractor must supply his/her own material handling tools to pick up and deliver cargo safely. per assigned routes within appointment times.
  • Work with warehouse and office staff to review and process bill of ladings, verify, and notate piece count and cargo condition, locate, tag, pull and put away cargo as needed.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow specific job instructions and training documents.
  • Must pass all relevant background, MVR, and employment tests/requirements (no felonies), trucks must be in good working order and all insurance requirements meet.
  • Provide proof of insurance with the limits and additions required by Action Freight ( Commercial Auto Liability : $1,000,000 Combined Single Limit).

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures and dusty conditions in the dock environment; must be able to perform essential functions in these conditions.
