Spathe Systems is a rapidly growing SOF led, 8(a) defense contractor headquartered in Tampa, FL with offices in Fayetteville, NC and strategic partner locations in Virginia Beach and Coronado. Spathe Systems is seeking a Senior Academic Instructor for the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) mission in support of United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

Clearance: TOP SECRET clearance required; SCI eligible

Job Description:

SPATHE is looking for a China/Russia or AI SME to support our multi-year contract with the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) mission in support of USSOCOM. As a Senior Academic Instructor, provide subject matter expertise instruction to JSOU students and support and assist in the execution of JSOU’s educational support services with emphasis on military studies.

Requirements:

  • Promote and conduct joint special operations research, analysis, and publication of scholarly articles at the operational and strategic levels.
  • Provide input for classified research projects to include USSOCOM Commander-directed research on classified material and topics, up to and include TS/SCI and ACCM programs.
  • Support a formalized special operations research program between USSOCOM and service/joint PME institutions, civilian academic research institutions, and international research centers.
  • Assess joint PME and Centers of Excellence (COEs) to determine their educational, research, and courseware applicability to JSOU. The Resident Senior Fellows shall divide their duties among four areas (Research, JSOU Press support, Teaching, and JSOU service support).
  • Assist in the drafting of the annual JSOU Research Plan and facilitate the execution of the approved research plan.
  • Conduct research and writing for publication in professional journals on topics within their published fields of expertise.
  • Publish a minimum of one large research project (e.g. monograph) or two smaller research projects (chapter, article) each year.
  • Support courses with instruction (e.g. lecture, seminar or case study) and SOF curriculum at senior professional military education institutions as requested and directed.
  • Plan and execute, or otherwise contribute as active participants, strategically focused, senior-level symposia of comparable quality to nationally recognized colleges and universities.
  • Collaborate on education events and war games with faculty at other Joint PME institutions, NDU, Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), USSOCOM, and other post-secondary institutions.

Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree (PhD or EdD) required in International relations, National Security Strategy, Security Studies, Strategic Communications, Political Science, International Affairs, Counterterrorism, Anthropology, History, Education or other field relevant to JSOU formal courses; OR MA/MS Degree with 15 years of SOF or related experience and familiarity with special operations and/or direct special operations experience; e.g., leadership position or corollary topic-focused professional experience within the special operations community; with service at the unified, sub-unified, or component command level or interagency role supporting the SOCOM enterprise. Degrees must be from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university or internationally recognized college/university.
  • 5 years’ research and professional publications experience; Knowledge of industry standard publication and experience; published author in an academic journal or book.
  • 5 years’ operational experience within the SOF, academic, or interagency community.
  • 5 years’ expertise in national security affairs, or recognized academic experts on subjects of SOF Ground, Sea, Land, Air/Space, or Interagency.
  • 3 years’ post-secondary instructor experience or have graduated from a Faculty Development Course recognized by the JSOU Academic Dean.
  • China, Russia or AI expertise is required.
