What does a sales professional do?

Professionals in sales are responsible for promoting and selling products or services to customers. They identify potential clients, build relationships, and understand customer needs to recommend suitable offerings. Salespeople often negotiate prices, prepare sales contracts, and follow up to ensure customer satisfaction. Their goal is to meet or exceed sales targets while maintaining positive customer relations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in sales?

To thrive in Sales, you need strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, often supported by a background in business or marketing. Familiarity with CRM software, data analytics tools, and sales platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot is typically required. Outstanding sales professionals also excel in resilience, active listening, and adaptability to changing client needs. These abilities are essential for building trust, closing deals, and consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets.

How does a sales professional typically collaborate with other departments to achieve targets?

Sales professionals often work closely with teams such as marketing, customer support, and product development to meet sales goals. Collaboration with marketing ensures that campaigns and messaging align with customer needs and market trends, while working with product teams allows sales to provide valuable customer feedback for improvements. Additionally, coordinating with customer support helps sales reps address client concerns and build long-term relationships. This cross-functional teamwork is crucial for delivering a seamless customer experience and achieving overall business objectives.

Job description

The Organization:

Oregon Equipment Sales & Linn Benton Tractor is a premier Kubota tractor dealership serving the agricultural and construction sectors. We provide high-performance machinery, diverse equipment lines from top manufacturers, and dependable service built on long-lasting customer relationships.

The Position:

We are seeking a driven and knowledgeable Sales Representative to manage the full sales lifecycle from lead generation to final paperwork. This role is highly adaptable: depending on your strengths and career goals, the position can be structured with a focus on inside sales (maximizing showroom traffic, walk-ins, and inbound leads) or outside sales (proactive territory management, account development, and field consultations).

Responsibilities:

  • Sales & Business Development: Manage a dynamic sales pipeline leveraging a mix of inbound showroom engagement, walk-ins, and proactive outbound prospecting. The split between in-store account management and field-based lead generation will be tailored based on the representative’s core strengths.
  • Prospecting & Outreach: Cultivate and maintain strong customer relationships through omnichannel outreach, including phone, email, digital networking, and/or targeted on-site client and farm visits.
  • Position Adaptability:
  • The Inside Track: Ideal for professionals who thrive on a high volume of inbound showroom traffic, building instant rapport with walk-ins, and managing complex, full-cycle deals from a structured dealership environment.
  • The Outside Track: Ideal for autonomous "hunters" who prefer being out in the community, managing a geographic territory, visiting job sites or farms, and building long-term commercial relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in sales, customer service, or agricultural equipment.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication, basic proficiency with MS Office/dealership systems, and the ability to operate machinery for client demos.
  • Traits & Requirements: Customer-focused self-starter with a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
  • Culture & Alignment: Demonstrates commitment to our key culture markers:
  • Urgency: Purposeful, proactive, and energetic in driving success.
  • Accountability: Owns decisions, accepts responsibility, and learns from results.
  • Teamwork: Collaborates fluidly, respects diverse viewpoints, and leverages collective strengths.
  • Respect: Deeply values colleagues and clients, ensuring positive and supportive interactions.
  • Relentless Pursuit of Excellence: Chooses to be outstanding in all facets of the job, pushing for continuous improvement.
  • Physical: Ability to work outdoors in varied conditions and occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of agricultural/construction equipment markets; bilingual skills are a plus.

Salary & Benefits:

  • $80,000-$130,000 BOE
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with company match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and Paid Holidays
  • Life Insurance and Employee Discounts on equipment/supplies
