Job description

Quality Mechanical Inspector

Tyngsboro, MA 01879

Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay: $27.00 – $35.00 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Quality Mechanical Inspector to support quality assurance activities in a precision machining environment. This role is responsible for performing first article, in-process, and final inspections of machined components and assemblies to ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills, experience operating and programming CMM equipment, and a commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Inspection & Measurement

  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of precision machined parts and assemblies.
  • Verify dimensions and specifications using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and optical comparators.
  • Operate and program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
  • Inspect incoming materials, components, and outside-processed parts.
  • Accurately document inspection results and maintain quality records.
  • Identify and report nonconforming materials, parts, or processes.
  • Assist with root cause investigations and corrective actions when quality issues arise.

Quality Assurance

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Apply GD&T principles during inspection and verification activities.
  • Review customer requirements, control plans, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and defect reduction.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO 9001 quality system documentation and compliance.
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure product quality standards are met.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of inspection experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
  • Experience using precision inspection tools including:
    • Micrometers
    • Vernier and digital calipers
    • Height gauges
    • Bore gauges
    • Indicators
    • Optical comparators
  • Experience operating and programming CMM equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with production and quality teams.

Preferred

  • Experience working within an ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and corrective action processes.
  • Experience with surface finish measurement equipment.
  • Familiarity with advanced metrology methods and inspection techniques.
