Ability to explain decoding strategies, sight word recognition, and comprehension techniques while preparing adult learners to achieve functional literacy for employment, daily life, and continued educational advancement.
  • Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching reading fundamentals to adult learners using age-appropriate, respectful materials and methods. Guides students through letter-sound relationships, word recognition, sentence reading, form completion, interpreting signs and labels, and writing basic communications. Emphasizes building confidence and self-efficacy while connecting literacy skills to practical goals including job applications, healthcare navigation, and parental involvement in education.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with adult literacy curricula and common challenges such as learning differences, limited prior schooling, emotional barriers to learning, and balancing instruction with life responsibilities. Adapts instruction using functional life-skills materials, multisensory methods, and patient pacing to support adult learners from pre-literacy through basic literacy levels seeking independence, employment, and educational advancement.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
