Job description

Ministry Support & Events Director

Reports To: Director of Operations
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Mauldin First Baptist Church | Mauldin, South Carolina

The Opportunity

At Mauldin First Baptist Church, some of the most meaningful ministry happens in moments that never fit neatly into a job description.

It happens when a family walks through our doors for the first time and needs someone who makes them feel welcome. It happens when hundreds of people gather to celebrate Easter or Christmas. It happens when someone takes the next step of baptism or attends Discover MFB to find their place in our church family. And sometimes, it happens when a grieving family needs a church family to walk alongside them through a funeral just days later.

The Ministry Support & Events Director helps make those moments possible.

This role combines high-level administrative support, churchwide communication, event coordination, and volunteer leadership. We are looking for someone who sees organization as ministry, anticipates needs before they become problems, enjoys making systems better, and finds fulfillment in helping other people and ministries succeed.

The right person will not simply maintain what already exists. We want someone who will identify better ways to communicate, organize, coordinate, and serve.

What You'll Own

Ministry & Administrative Support

  • Manage church correspondence, including email, letters, and churchwide communications.
  • Maintain accurate church records and databases.
  • Coordinate churchwide email communications, newsletters, bulletins, and other recurring communications.
  • Manage calendars, appointments, meetings, and scheduling for the Senior Pastor and Director of Operations.
  • Maintain registrations and administrative details for church events and ministry activities.
  • Coordinate facility scheduling and room reservations.
  • Help maintain an accurate master church calendar.
  • Develop and improve administrative processes that make our staff and ministries more efficient.
  • Anticipate administrative needs and proactively take ownership of tasks that allow ministry staff to focus on their primary areas of responsibility.

Churchwide Events & Significant Moments

This position coordinates the administrative and logistical details surrounding many of the moments that matter most in the life of our church, including:

  • Easter and Christmas services and events
  • Mother's Day and Father's Day
  • Baptisms and Communion
  • Weddings
  • Funerals and memorial services
  • Discover MFB, our opportunity for people to learn more about our church, meet our leadership, understand our mission, and discover their next step at MFB
  • Churchwide gatherings and special events
  • Other significant ministry events as assigned

For these events, the Director will:

  • Partner with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, families, vendors, and volunteers to execute events with excellence.
  • Develop timelines, checklists, schedules, and communication plans.
  • Coordinate facility usage, room setup, event flow, and post-event reset.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for event logistics.
  • Coordinate catering, vendors, supplies, registrations, and other event needs when applicable.
  • Ensure event details are clearly communicated to everyone involved.
  • Help ensure every event reflects the mission, values, and hospitality of Mauldin First Baptist Church.

Build & Lead Volunteer Teams

A critical part of succeeding in this position is understanding that ministry is not meant to be done alone.

The Ministry Support & Events Director will have the opportunity and authority to recruit, develop, organize, and lead volunteer teams who help execute churchwide events and significant ministry moments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruit volunteers who enjoy serving behind the scenes and helping others.
  • Develop clearly defined volunteer roles and expectations.
  • Build teams that can assist with hospitality, event preparation, setup, guest assistance, funeral and wedding support, and other ministry needs.
  • Train and communicate with volunteers so they are prepared to serve confidently.
  • Develop systems that allow volunteers to take meaningful ownership rather than depending on one staff member to personally execute every detail.
  • Create a culture where serving through hospitality, administration, and practical assistance is understood as meaningful ministry.

The Rhythm of This Role

The normal office schedule is:

Monday–Thursday | 8:30 AM–5:00 PM
Sunday | 8:30 AM–12:30 PM

But ministry does not always happen during office hours.

Christmas Eve, weddings, funerals, and special events may require occasional evenings, Fridays, Saturdays, or additional Sunday hours. Funerals in particular can require significant coordination with very little notice.

We want to be transparent about that reality—and equally intentional about maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

When ministry responsibilities require significant work outside the normal schedule, the Director of Operations will work with the Ministry Support & Events Director to adjust the workweek appropriately through flexible scheduling and time away. We value excellent work, but we do not believe healthy ministry requires someone to be available every hour of every day.

Who We're Looking For

The strongest candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with the mission, beliefs, and ministry of Mauldin First Baptist Church.
  • Have exceptional organizational and administrative skills.
  • Be able to manage multiple priorities without losing attention to detail.
  • Communicate professionally and warmly with church members, guests, staff, vendors, and community members.
  • Demonstrate discretion when working with confidential or sensitive information.
  • Take initiative rather than waiting to be told every next step.
  • See inefficiency and naturally begin thinking about how to improve it.
  • Remain calm and gracious when plans change or unexpected needs arise.
  • Have experience recruiting, coordinating, or leading volunteers or teams.
  • Be comfortable giving volunteers clear direction and appropriate ownership.
  • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Understand that weddings, funerals, and other significant life events require both operational excellence and genuine compassion.

Technology

Candidates should be comfortable learning and working within multiple technology platforms.

Experience with the following is helpful but not required in every area:

  • Microsoft Office
  • Planning Center
  • Mailchimp
  • Canva

Mauldin First Baptist currently uses different platforms for specific administrative and ministry functions. The successful candidate will be trained on how each system fits within our workflow and will be expected to maintain accurate information across the appropriate systems.

Physical Requirements

This position includes both office responsibilities and hands-on event coordination. With or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to move throughout the church campus, remain standing for periods of time during events, and occasionally move or lift event supplies and equipment weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.

Major furniture moves and facility setups requiring heavier lifting are coordinated with the appropriate facilities personnel and volunteers.

What Success Looks Like

During the First 90 Days

A successful Ministry Support & Events Director will:

  • Develop a working understanding of MFB's ministries, staff structure, calendar, communication systems, and administrative processes.
  • Establish effective working relationships with the Senior Pastor, Director of Operations, ministry staff, and key volunteers.
  • Demonstrate reliable ownership of recurring administrative responsibilities.
  • Become proficient in the primary technology platforms required for the position.
  • Successfully coordinate assigned church events and ministry activities.
  • Identify administrative or event processes that can be simplified or improved.
  • Begin identifying and recruiting volunteers for event and ministry-support teams.

Why Mauldin First?

This is more than keeping calendars organized and events running on time.

The person in this role will have the opportunity to help people experience some of the most important moments of their lives—from walking into a new church for the first time, to celebrating baptism, to gathering their family for a wedding, to being cared for during the loss of someone they love.

You will help create environments where ministry can happen well.

If you love Jesus, love people, thrive on organization, enjoy making complicated things simpler, and get satisfaction from making everyone around you more effective, this could be an incredibly meaningful place to serve.
