POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a full-time position for an attorney who is committed to serving the public in a fast-paced environment that encourages and rewards teamwork, creative thinking, and sound judgment. Assistant County Solicitors in the Generalist role provide a variety of legal services and advice to County departments including both litigation and on transactional matters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All Assistant County Solicitors are required to adhere to a high level of effectiveness, efficiency and ethical fitness. The County Code provides that Assistant County Solicitors perform such duties in connection with the legal affairs of the County as may be assigned to them by the County Commissioners or the County Solicitor. Although all Assistant County Solicitors are expected to provide legal services in accordance with the needs of the County, the primary responsibilities for this role may include:
  • Reviews contracts, purchasing materials, and other business documents relating to the County's business with outside vendors.
  • Defends the County in civil actions brought in state or federal court at the trial and appellate levels.
  • Responds to requests pursuant to the Right-to-Know Law including drafting appeals to denials of requests.
  • Provides advice to, develops subject matter expertise for, and litigates on behalf of County departments that report to the Board of Commissioners.
  • Proposes, researches, and drafts documents relating to affirmative litigation, County ordinances, and other proactive measures designed to protect the County and its residents from fraud, false claims, and other unfair trade practices.
  • Proposes, develops, and reforms policies in accordance with the policy and administrative goals of the Board of Commissioners, the Board of Elections, and other entities on which the Bucks County Commissioners serve.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the County Solicitor or the Administrative Deputy County Solicitor.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
