Overview

We are looking for a Research Associate to join Autonomous's premier research team in New York, covering China Macro. If you have a passion for research and want to build a long-term career in the investing world, there’s no better place to start than Bernstein. We seek candidates who love to solve problems, analyze data, and are passionate about in-depth fundamental analysis. This role offers a unique opportunity to become an industry expert while working alongside a seasoned veteran who will mentor and develop you. These roles offer a path to more senior opportunities within Bernstein.

Responsibilities
  • Track, report, and forecast China's macro data releases on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Analyze and anticipate shifts in China's fiscal and monetary policy
  • Build and maintain economic models that incorporate evolving macro and business conditions
  • Conduct deep-dive research into specific topics across China's economy
  • Perform regular channel checks and actively engage in relevant industry events in China
  • Write clear, well-reasoned research reports that communicate findings and investment views to clients
  • Present published research to external and internal clients through presentations, meetings, and calls
  • Fulfill bespoke client research requests within compliance and marketing guidelines
  • Contribute to the team's macro coverage of other countries and financial sector coverage of China as needed
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and ability to generate original, innovative ideas
  • Ability to take ownership of work, manage priorities independently, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including experience working with large data sets
  • Willingness to own work and maintain accountability
  • Proven analytical knowledge of China's macroeconomy, including key data series, policy frameworks, and structural dynamics
  • Strong economic modeling skills
  • Proficiency with relevant data platforms, including CEIC, Wind, and Bloomberg
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Minimum of two years of experience conducting research and analysis on China's economy, macroeconomic trends, or related topics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field
  • Highly organized, with ability to manage competing priorities and adapt in a fast-moving research environment
  • Professional fluency in both English and Mandarin, including ability to conduct research, business discussions, and written communications in both languages
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field
