Job description

Basic Job Functions:  

Operate specific equipment used in the manufacturing of photovoltaic solar modules.   Conduct shop floor activities necessary to maintain safety, quality and throughput of all aspects of the module manufacturing operation.  

Education and Experience:    

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent from an accredited high school or institution.

Experience must meet one of the five criteria below:

One or more years of experience from the list below in a manufacturing environment:

  • Manufacturing production process experience
  • Material Inspection  
  • Packing or boxing experience
  • Associate's degree
  • Two years military experience  
  • One or more year machine or mechanic experience as a primary job function.
  • Exposure to electrical, mechanical and/or chemical industrial applications.        

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Safety First mindset.
  • Basic mathematic skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Basic problem solving skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • General electrical/electronic and mechanical knowledge  
  • Fundamental computer applications knowledge.
  • Experience to understand and apply SPC (Statistical Process Control) concepts preferred.  Demonstrated proficiency in responding to SPC alarms to bring processes back in control.
  • Operating high volume manufacturing equipment/process preferred.
  • Self-directed, ability to work with minimal supervision.

FS Internal Candidates must have:

  • Must not be on an active level write up at time of promotion.
  • Ability or experience to perform light PM's.
  • Demonstrate FS Core values through Behaviors.
  • Most recent GPS rating of Solid Contributor (or better).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work with the manufacturing engineering team to identify deviations and root causes of equipment malfunctions and/or process variation.
  • Provide training to production associates.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure all processes are running on target as defined by the Process Control Plan  
  • Performs job duties in accordance to all written work instructions and procedures.
  • Assure proper inventory levels of materials and parts, where relevant.
  • Make improvement suggestions as necessary using the proper format and process.      
  • Interfaces and communicates with other departments and groups.
  • Responsible for effective communication and fostering teamwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.  
  • Vacation coverage for Submodule Laser shift MET completing required control plan checks of KPI/KPO.
  • Ensure all processes are running on target as defined by the appropriate Wet/Thermal/Laser Process Control Plan.
  • Respond to SPC process control alarms, bringing processes back into control

Travel:

  • No routine travel is required outside the First Solar work site.

Estimated Salary Range:

  • $18.56-$25.98

US Physical Requirements:  

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, push or pull on a seldom basis.
  • Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).
