What is an import intern?

Import Interns are entry-level professionals or students who assist with the processes involved in bringing goods and materials into a country for a company or organization. They typically work under the supervision of import or logistics managers, helping with tasks such as documentation, coordinating shipments, communicating with suppliers, and ensuring compliance with customs regulations. The role provides hands-on experience in international trade, logistics, and supply chain management, making it an excellent starting point for a career in these fields.

What does an import intern do?

As an Import Intern, you will typically assist with documentation for incoming shipments, track orders, and help ensure compliance with import regulations. Your daily tasks may include coordinating with freight forwarders, verifying shipping documents, and entering data into internal systems. You’ll frequently collaborate with the logistics team, customs brokers, and purchasing or sales departments to resolve issues and keep shipments on schedule. This role offers a hands-on introduction to international trade processes and can help you build valuable cross-departmental communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment set standout candidates apart. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate, timely import processes and smooth coordination across stakeholders in global trade.
