The Department of Biostatistics and Data Science (BDS) is a vibrant academic unit comprised of over 33 primary faculty members, 12 secondary and affiliate faculty members, and 90 staff including biostatisticians, data scientists, programmers, project managers, and administrative staff. This group has demonstrated long-standing growth in extramural funding, with over $22 million in annual external funding. The Department resides within Public Health Sciences (PHS), which also includes the Departments of Epidemiology and Prevention, Social Sciences and Health Policy, and Implementation Science. Together, PHS is the largest research group at WFUSM with over 85 faculty members, 240 staff, and $51 million in annual external funding. BDS also has strong ties with colleagues in the Department of Statistical Sciences at Wake Forest University with opportunities for collaboration and working with graduate students.

Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) serves as the academic core of Advocate Health and is among the top 50 research institutions in the United States. Duties and Responsibilities

Committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary research, the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science (BDS) in the Division of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) invites applications for open rank faculty positions. The initial appointment would be tenure-track or tenured.

All outstanding applicants are encouraged to apply. These positions are not targeted towards specific methodological or scientific expertise, though areas of interest include:

  • Analysis of administrative (electronic health record, claims, etc.) and observational data, including methods focused on causal inference
  • Pragmatic study designs (cluster-randomized, stepped-wedge, SMART designs, etc.)
  • Clinical trial design, coordination, and analysis
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning applied to biomedical data
  • Analysis of dense data streams such as actigraphy, smartwatch measurements, or other forms of remote patient monitoring
Position Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • PhD in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, informatics, data science, or a related field
  • Experience collaborating with medical and public health professionals in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
