Scope of Job

We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving the University of Texas Rio Grande Valleyโ€™s student body as an open rank (Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, Clinical Professor) with the Department of Physician Assistant beginning in the 2026โ€‘2027 academic year.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide student instruction and teach courses (didactic and/or clinical) as assigned by the Program Director.

  • Supervise students in didactic and/or clinical courses and activities.

  • Assist with admission (e.g., application review, selection, and interviews).

  • Assist in developing and coordinating course design and implementation within the didactic and/or clinical curriculum.

  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of student performance.

  • Provide academic counseling and advising of students.

  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.

  • Perform other program and department level duties, as assigned.

  • Assist in the evaluation process of the curriculum and the program.

  • Assist in the development, review, and revisions (as necessary) of the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program.

  • Assure the availability of remedial instruction for students.


Minimum Qualifications

Clinical Assistant Rank:



  • Minimum of a masterโ€™s degree in physician assistant studies, health related field, or medical degree.

  • Applicants must have a doctorate and/or masterโ€™s degree from an accredited institution.

  • Physician Assistant applicants must be NCCPA certified.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching experience.


Clinical Associate Rank:



  • Minimum of a masterโ€™s degree in physician assistant studies, health related field, or medical degree.

  • Applicants must have a doctorate and/or masterโ€™s degree from an accredited institution.

  • Physician Assistant applicants must be NCCPA certified.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching experience.

  • Have a minimum of 3 years fullโ€‘time teaching experience at the Assistant Professor Rank.


Clinical Professor Rank:



  • Minimum of a masterโ€™s degree in physician assistant studies, health related field, or medical degree.

  • Applicants must have a doctorate and/or masterโ€™s degree from an accredited institution.

  • Physician Assistant applicants must be NCCPA certified.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching experience.

  • Have a minimum of 3 years fullโ€‘time teaching experience at the Associate Professor Rank.
