Working at The Preservation Society of Newport County offers you the opportunity to work for an organization that preserves, protects, and presents 13 historic properties and landscapes in Newport, Rhode Island. As part of the team, you have an opportunity to help preserve and maintain a cultural, historical and the social treasures of Newport, Rhode Island.

The Preservation Society of Newport County seeks part-time Food Service Associates to work up to 30 hours per week, including a mixture of week and weekend days at The Breakers Welcome Center.

  • The Food Service Associate is responsible for providing friendly and efficient customer service and is expected to be professional under pressure to solve problems, make decisions and deal effectively with the public.
  • Primary responsibility is to run a register, cash handling and offering great customer service, greeting each customer.
  • Inspect premises, furniture, and equipment to insure that the highest quality of health, safety and sanitation are maintained.
  • Continually monitor the environment to assess, detect and prevent any variance from established housekeeping, sanitation, safety, dress, hygiene and customer service standards.
  • Keep lunch venue fully stocked for customers.
  • Greet all guests and make them feel welcome and comfortable while they await their luncheon seating. Implement and monitor set standards of performance and service.
  • Coordinate with catering staff to insure highest quality service and an efficient operation.
  • Serve as a contact with visitors to achieve satisfaction and proper resolution of questions, problems and complaints. All complaints should be investigated and immediately resolved.
  • Open and close The Breakers Welcome Center and the Tea House cafรฉ at Marble House food service performing detailed clerical, administrative and financial duties to include keeping attendance, processing transactions, handling and controlling cash and the completion of all daily paperwork.
Requirements:
  • A desirable candidate will possess the following:
  • High School Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Ability to maintain flexible behavior and approach towards assignments.
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
  • Ability to operate credit card reader and POS cash register.
  • Previous customer service and cash handling experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to carry up to 20 lbs, occasionally
