Job description

Location: Main Hospital Bldg - 1st Flr
Retail
Primary Purpose
The goal of the pharmacist-intern position is to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities to safely, efficiently and effectively provide pharmacist-delivered patient care to a diverse patient population and practice pharmacy under the laws and regulations of the State of Texas. The internship is conducted in the presence of and under the supervision of a healthcare professional preceptor of pharmacist preceptor. This role provides direct support to pharmacists and pharmacy staff in accordance with state and federal regulations.
MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education
- Must be currently enrolled in Doctor of Pharmacy program or completed Doctor of Pharmacy program but pharmacist license pending
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Must have an active pharmacy intern license with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
- Active certificate to administer immunizations and vaccinations through an accredited course
- Ability to work a variety of schedules including, evenings, holidays, and weekends
Skills or Special Abilities
- Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of a PC, and be able to learn and use new software.
- Must successfully complete the necessary training requirements to perform cashier duties within 90 days from initial employment.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills for area of responsibility.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the operation of equipment used in primary practice area.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of different types of drugs.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of medical and health care terminology.
- Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued care.
Responsibilities
- Actively participates in and supports immunization services
- Performs daily operational duties related to immunization scope of services
- Working alongside pharmacist performing daily operational and clinical duties
- Offers advice and consultation to customers and healthcare professionals regarding drug therapy, and self-care counsel and educate patients under the supervision of a preceptor promote appropriate patient care services
- Upholds operational standards including performance metrics, safety and compliance
Job Accountabilities
- Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
