Registered Nurse Position

A 1-on-1 RN is needed for a student who requires health support and monitoring per her IEP. The student is medically complex and fragile and requires care and breathing treatments throughout the school day. The RN will accompany the student from her home to school on the bus, stay with her throughout the school day, and then return with her on the bus.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate health care needs of students and refer to appropriate specialists when necessary.
  • Administer immunizations and maintain records as required by the school physician and in compliance with State laws.
  • Administer medications and maintain records, including dosages and any untoward effects.
  • Educate students in personal hygiene and overall health care.
  • Make medical appointments and assist with doctor's clinics to describe the student's condition to the physician and interpret medical information to the student and parents.
  • Keep current medical records on each student and conduct routine surveys and annual screenings.
  • Keep parents informed of student health status.
  • Work with physicians at the Student Health Center and throughout the community.
  • Manage student emergencies related to accidents and health care.
  • Communicate student health care needs to instructional and residence hall staff.
  • Take sign language classes for communication with deaf students.
Schedule
  • Monday - Friday shift 7:00am - 3:00pm (School hours), not exceeding 40 hours per week.
  • Friday's school hours are 2 hours shorter.
Requirements
  • Active RN License in State of AZ.
  • Active FPCC.
  • CPR/BLS Certification.
  • Hepatitis B Vaccine.
  • COVID Vaccine.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse licensed in the applicable state.
  • Evidence of completion of a physical assessment skills course.
  • Eligible for Arizona School Nurse Certification.
  • Current CPR Certification.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Good knowledge of assessment and treatment of children aged 4 to 22 years.
  • Strong planning, organization, and communication skills.
  • Injury assessment skills are helpful.
Special Conditions/Requirements
  • Must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
Safety Sensitive Position

This position requires pre-employment drug testing and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in pediatric nursing or urgent care nursing.
  • Ability to work effectively with many people.
  • Knowledge of working with handicapped children.
  • Physical assessment skills with sports injuries.
  • American Sign Language experience preferred.
Training

Training will be provided either in the student's home or at school with her current RN and/or parent.
