Position Overview: The Immunization Program License Vocational Nurse will support clinical services provided to patients by ensuring quality patient care through the Immunization Program. Under the clinical guidance/oversight of the Local Health Authority, the Licensed Vocational Nurse will be responsible for performing clinical tasks in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules, and regulations; and policies, procedures, and guidelines of Harris County Public Health (HCPH).

This position supports the Harris County Public Health Department (HCPH), and reports to the Mobile Immunization Assistant Program Manager. This position will service the Immunization Program by providing comprehensive nursing services throughout Harris County by way of the Mobile Medical Unit and community events. This is a grant-funded position.

Duties & Responsibilities: Administer age-appropriate immunizations and stay updated with all CDC vaccine schedule changes; assist the nursing team in providing CDC-recommended vaccinations. Assist the medical team in tasks such as (but not limited to) physical exams and medical procedures, administering and dispensing prescribed medication according to Pharmacy D regulations, patient education, and responding to emergency medical situations. Perform clinical tasks, including (but not limited to) measuring and documenting vital signs, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and conducting basic patient assessments.

Assists with patient appointments by performing vaccine administration, vaccine preparation, specimen collection, vital signs, & gathering patient histories. Control patient flow through the facility during clinic visits, including discharging patients from the clinic following the medical provider's care plan and providing appropriate patient education. Serve as a vaccination coordinator alternate for the Vaccine for Children's (VFC) Program with the Texas Department of Health Services (DSHS).

Manage medical inventory, including vaccines and oral medications, by ordering and ensuring the clinic is properly stocked. Participate in performing quality assurance checks on immunization practices, lab specimens, and prepare vaccines and specimens for transport. Requirements Education: Current license with no restrictions as an LVN in the State of Texas by the Texas Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners Licensure/Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified. Valid Texas Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and navigating EMRs. Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment Knowledge of current CDC recommendations for immunizations. Ability to organize material, prioritize job tasks, make reliable judgments, and draw conclusions from verbal discussions and written data.

Ability to draw conclusions from data, such as lab tests, to record this information accurately in patient's record, and to notify the Clinical Manager or medical providers when deviations occur. Preferences Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in an outpatient or clinical setting.

Languages: Bilingual (English/Spanish). General Information Position Type and Typical Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, funded through special revenue. 40 hours per week.

Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Due to the nature of the work, shifts may occasionally be extended beyond the scheduled end time, or days may vary, including weekends, as needed Must be willing to drive throughout Harris County jurisdiction and to Harris County Public Health Clinics Work Environment: This position operates on a medical mobile unit clinic environment, or in the community setting, and occasionally in a medical clinic. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands: Persons in these positions frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 lbs. They also occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 lbs., and sometimes, but rarely, up to 50 lbs. Work Location: Mobile Immunization Services Team

Primary Reporting Address: 1111 Fannin St. Houston, Texas, 77002. This position requires travel to multiple community locations within Harris County, as directed.
