Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Position will be responsible for leading engineering teams related to the Optical Scale Up Program to deliver business initiatives. It may include working with product development, division engineering and manufacturing colleagues to execute projects for Capacity Expansion, Capability improvements, New Product Introduction and Cost Reduction based on OCS Division priorities.  The focus for this specific position may be global at times and potentially involve relatively complex automation projects from initiation to completion or similar assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and execute project plans, including financial, resource, and scope management, to scale effectively and deliver value within budget.
  • Drive overall project progress, regularly reassessing the value proposition and recommending scope or strategy changes to leadership as needed.
  • Ensure technical work is executed on time and meets required safety, quality, and performance standards.
  • Monitor changes in customer requirements or assumptions and assess impacts to strategy, business case, risk, resources, and timelines.
  • Manage communication flow on project direction, risks, issues, and progress with leadership, internal customers, and project teams.
  • Identify technical and manufacturing levers to strengthen the business case, ensuring testing, evaluation, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Apply project management best practices, including Performance Excellence tools and Critical Chain methodologies.
  • Manage and track project capital spending and cash flow projections using Planview.
  • Coordinate equipment installation, validation, capability studies, and release of stable processes to manufacturing.
  • Lead manufacturing readiness activities, including documentation critical to quality, process controls, BOM setup, prototype runs, and operator training.
Experiences/Education - Required
  • B.S. in a technical field (preferred Engineering or Physical Sciences)
  • Minimum 8 years' experience with Project Management / Leadership in leading internal or external teams
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading projects implemented in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience leading cross functional teams (engineering, technical, operations) in planning and execution of projects, risk management, problem solving and execution of strategy
  • Experience with New Product Introduction, validation and release into scalable manufacturing
  • Experience creating project plans, launching new projects effectively and managing budgets and timelines
  • We anticipate up to 25% travel for this role at times depending on the project and may involve international travel
Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Experience in optics and any advanced degree (MBA, Masters)
  • Experience leading Automation or Equipment-focused Projects
  • Experience leading cost reduction initiatives and ensuring project monitors and meets cost targets
  • Experience with Cost Modeling and business case validation
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project)
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
  • Languages Spanish and Mandarin

The range for this position is $114,457.00 - $157,379.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
