Immigration Mobility information

What is immigration mobility?

Immigration mobility refers to the movement of individuals across borders for purposes such as work, study, or residency. In the context of employment, it often involves helping employees and their families relocate to different countries, ensuring compliance with immigration laws and regulations. Professionals working in immigration mobility manage visa applications, work permits, and support the transition process for international assignments. They play a crucial role in facilitating global workforce management and ensuring smooth cross-border transitions for organizations and their employees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an immigration mobility specialist?

To thrive as an Immigration Mobility Specialist, you need in-depth knowledge of immigration laws, visa processes, and compliance requirements, often supported by a degree in human resources, law, or a related field. Familiarity with case management software, government portals, and document management systems is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing complex cases and supporting clients. These abilities ensure accurate, timely processing and a positive experience for both clients and employers navigating global mobility regulations.

What are some of the most common challenges faced by professionals in immigration mobility roles, and how can they navigate them effectively?

Professionals in Immigration Mobility often encounter challenges such as rapidly evolving immigration laws, complex documentation requirements, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders across countries. Staying updated on legal changes and maintaining clear communication with HR, legal teams, and international employees are crucial for success. Building strong organizational systems and leveraging technology for tracking applications can help streamline processes and minimize errors. Proactive problem-solving and continuous professional development are also key to navigating this dynamic field.

Job description

Immigration And Mobility Manager

Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F, led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to to ship AI products.

Baseten is building a world-class team, anchored in our San Francisco and New York offices and increasingly growing across the globe. We believe the best talent can come from anywhere, and our ability to hire and support that talent is mission-critical.

As our Immigration and Mobility Manager, you will make global hiring operationally seamless. You'll be Baseten's in-house expert on immigration, relocation, and international employment strategy, ensuring that exceptional candidates from all over the world can confidently build their careers with us.

This is a high-stakes, high-impact role. Speed, clarity, and correctness matter deeply in immigration and mobility. You will own the end-to-end experience, navigate a rapidly evolving U.S. immigration landscape, and design the systems and policies that enable Baseten to hire globally while delivering an exceptional employee experience.

Over time, you'll also help shape where and how we expand internationally, advising on global hiring models, new hubs, and employment structures that support our long-term growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end immigration lifecycle, managing all U.S. visa processes from offer stage through renewals and permanent residency.
  • Oversee and project manage visa sponsorships executed through Employer of Record partners
  • Serve as Baseten's internal immigration expert, partnering closely with external counsel and vendors where needed.
  • Stay closely attuned to changes in the U.S. immigration landscape and translate them into clear, practical guidance for employees and leadership.
  • Design a relocation experience that feels seamless and well-supported, helping employees and their families successfully land in San Francisco, New York, or other global locations
  • Advise on international hiring and employment arrangements, bringing strong knowledge of cross-border tax implications, compliance considerations, and global mobility tradeoffs
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and People to support international expansion and the establishment of future global hubs.
  • Build thoughtful, scalable processes, documentation, and internal education that make immigration and mobility feel organized, transparent, and human.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing U.S. and Canadian business immigration across a wide range of visa types and permanent residency pathways.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex, high-stakes immigration scenarios with exceptional judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Deep, current knowledge of the evolving U.S. immigration landscape, with a proactive approach to monitoring and responding to policy changes.
  • Strong experience advising on international employment arrangements, including cross-border compliance and employment tax considerations.
  • Experience building and maintaining scalable internal documentation, knowledge bases, and audit-ready case tracking systems.
  • Exceptional communicator (proactive, clear, and empathetic) who inspires confidence in employees and their families during high-uncertainty processes.
  • Highly organized operator who can manage multiple concurrent cases with speed and precision without sacrificing quality.
  • High-ownership, systems-oriented leader who can operate effectively in both structured environments and fast-scaling startups, balancing risk management with hiring velocity.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity.
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
  • Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
  • Company-facilitated 401(k)
  • Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.

Apply now to embark on a rewarding journey in shaping the future of AI! If you are a motivated individual with a passion for machine learning and a desire to be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you.

At Baseten, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable law.
