Job description

BorderCall is a small, dynamic, growing business immigration practice representing corporate clients on employment-based petitions: TN, L-1, H-1B, O-1, PERM and green card, I-9 and compliance. We also maintain a niche consular practice, built on the founding attorney's years as a U.S. consular officer, assisting with difficult visa interviews, refusals, and administrative processing. We're small on purpose. The firm runs on a client portal that gives HR teams and employees the same real-time case visibility the large national providers offer, and the efficiency that comes from it is reinvested in the work rather than in growing the caseload. Nothing goes to an overseas back office, which means the person who joins will be doing substantive legal work from day one, not reviewing someone else's.

The practice was built on the premise that immigration law shouldn't force a choice between real legal skill, modern technology, and genuine attention to the people behind each file. The work is varied and genuinely interesting, and whoever comes on board will have a real hand in shaping how the firm grows.

You'd be the second attorney, joining a founding attorney and a paralegal, with contract support as needed.

What you'd do

Expect to spend significant time drafting and reviewing petition documentation and responding to RFEs. In addition, you'll work directly with client HR contacts and beneficiaries, manage your own docket and deadlines, help build and refine the systems the firm runs on, and contribute to business development.

This is a role for someone with an entrepreneurial streak who wants to be involved in all aspects of a firm, not just the files. We're small enough that everyone does a bit of everything.

What we're looking for

A recent law school graduate or early-career attorney, admitted and in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction, or awaiting bar results. Immigration practice is federal, so Oregon admission is not required.

Prior immigration experience strongly preferred, business immigration in particular. Spanish fluency strongly preferred; German or another language a real plus. Clear, plain-English writing. Comfort with technology and a real interest in using it well, since much of how we operate depends on it. A genuine interest in where immigration law and policy are heading, not just where they are today. Someone who works well independently and doesn't need managing hour to hour.

We do not handle removal defense and currently do only a small amount of family-based work.

Terms and benefits

Remote, minimum 20 hours per week. Full or part time depending on the candidate, with a clear path to permanent full-time. Portland metro strongly preferred so you can be physically present when it helps, though not an absolute requirement.

$90,000 to $115,000 annually for full-time, depending on experience. Part-time compensated at an equivalent hourly rate.

We offer a 401(k) with employer match. Health coverage through an ICHRA: we provide a monthly tax-free allowance you use to buy the marketplace plan of your choice.
