Immediate Start information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Immediate Start position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Immediate Start position, candidates generally need adaptability, reliability, and relevant experience or training for the specific role they are filling. Depending on the job, familiarity with standard workplace tools (such as Microsoft Office, customer service platforms, or manufacturing equipment) and any required certifications may be essential. Strong time management, quick learning skills, and effective communication help individuals stand out in these fast-paced environments. These abilities are crucial because Immediate Start roles require employees to quickly integrate into teams, handle tasks with minimal onboarding, and effectively contribute from day one.

What should I expect during my first week in an Immediate Start position?

In an Immediate Start position, you can expect a fast-paced onboarding process focused on getting you up to speed quickly, often with condensed training sessions or direct mentorship. Most employers will pair you with an experienced team member or provide concise manuals so you can begin performing essential duties right away. You may be given priority tasks or assignments that match your experience, while less urgent responsibilities are introduced gradually. It's common to have questions and check in with your supervisor frequently as you adjust to the team's workflow. Embracing flexibility and proactive communication will help you integrate smoothly and demonstrate your value early on.

What is an Immediate Start?

An Immediate Start job is a position that requires a candidate to begin working as soon as possible, often within a few days of being hired. These jobs are common in industries with urgent staffing needs, such as retail, hospitality, customer service, and temporary roles. Employers seeking immediate hires typically look for candidates who are available right away and require minimal training. If you're searching for an Immediate Start job, it's important to have your resume ready and be prepared for a quick interview and onboarding process.

Daytime Hospice Support Caregiver Immediate Start

Homewatch Caregivers of Portland

Portland, OR

$11 - $12/wk

Full-time

Posted 28 days ago

Job description

Full-time / Part-time available · W-2 (not 1099) · Immediate start · 14-hour day shifts

Pay

$22.00–$24.00/hour

Job Description

Homewatch CareGivers of Portland is hiring compassionate, experienced daytime caregivers for a hospice client in downtown Portland who needs dedicated, hands-on support.

This is meaningful, hands-on work with a client who deserves consistency and real presence during a difficult chapter — not just task completion. We're building a small, dedicated day team for this case, and we're looking for caregivers who want to be part of that team from day one.

About the client & the work:

  • Client is legally blind and currently needs help with toileting, standby assistance with sit-to-stand transitions, and support with walking

  • Full support with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (iADLs)

  • Care needs will increase over time — this client is expected to transition to bed-bound care, so we're looking for caregivers comfortable growing with a case as needs intensify, not just handling today's level of care

  • Downtown Portland location; street parking available (costs reimbursed) if you drive, easily accessible by TriMet if you don't

Shift:

  • 14-hour day shifts

  • We're building a small rotating team, so shifts are consistent and predictable once scheduled

What we're looking for:

  • Experience with mobility assistance, transfers, and personal care (toileting, hygiene, ADLs)

  • Comfort and compassion working with clients who are blind or have low vision

  • Prior hospice, end-of-life, or palliative care experience strongly preferred — this client's needs will become more intensive over time, and we want caregivers who are steady through that

  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistency — this client needs to be able to count on their team

  • CNA, HCA, or equivalent caregiving certification is not required — compassionate, capable caregivers are welcome to apply. Certification is a plus and reduces our orientation/onboarding requirements if you have it, but it won't keep you from being considered if you don't.

  • Ability to safely assist with physical transfers and mobility support (essential function of this role; reasonable accommodations considered where possible)

Why work with us:

  • Competitive, above-market pay

  • Small, dedicated care team — you'll know this client and be known by them, not rotated across dozens of cases

  • Support from our RN for delegation and clinical guidance

  • W-2 employment with a locally owned Portland home care agency
