Description
Dashiell is a leading national provider of technical services to the electric utility, power generation, industrial, renewable and energy industries. These services include planning and systems studies, design and engineering, maintenance and testing, program management, construction, and turnkey EPC projects. Primary Function:The Project Manager leads the execution of medium- and high-voltage electrical substation, transmission line, and distribution line construction projects in industrial and utility settings. Operating with moderate supervision, the Project Manager manages assigned projects independently from award through close-out within delegated commitment authority, directing coordination between clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders while driving project planning, budgeting, and schedule performance. The position will be based in our Houston, Texas office located at 12301 Kurland Drive STE 400, Houston, TX 77034 and will report to Dashiell's Director of Project Management.  Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
  • Manage assigned projects from award through close-out, following Dashiell's project management process for project initiation, kickoff, execution, and closeout. 

  • Create, negotiate, and execute subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders within delegated commitment authority under the Delegation of Authority Matrix. 

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cash flow forecasts, and monthly performance worksheets; monitor cost codes and escalate variances as needed. 

  • Review, evaluate, and implement project specifications, drawing releases, and design changes in coordination with Engineering. 

  • Communicate project status, risks, schedule, and costs to internal and external stakeholders, including preparation of monthly progress reports. 

  • Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure timely ordering and expediting of materials in accordance with the project's drawing requirements and delivery lead times. 

  • Direct and oversee the subcontract bid process; prepare scope of work documents and manage subcontractor and vendor performance. 

  • Approve project invoices and coding for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable in accordance with Dashiell's accounting process. 

  • Direct the securing of applicable project permits and coordinate project testing, switching, turnover, and acceptance activities. 

  • Lead project team members, Construction Managers, and field personnel in support of assigned projects. 

  • Support the project proposal and bid process in conjunction with the Sales department as requested. 

  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Drive on-time, on-budget delivery of assigned projects by managing schedules, subcontracts, and change orders within delegated authority. 

  • Protect project profitability by maintaining disciplined control of budgets, cash flow, and commercial terms throughout the project lifecycle. 

  • Provide project and senior leadership with clear, accurate project intelligence that supports informed decision-making. 

  • Strengthen client relationships through proactive communication and reliable project execution. 

  • Support Dashiell's broader project delivery capability by coordinating effectively across Purchasing, Engineering, Accounting, and Construction Management. 


Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Science/Management, or a related field required; 4 years of directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the supervision or management of construction projects, budgets, and work groups. 

  • Working knowledge of project controls, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting. 

  • Understanding of financial aspects of project controls. 

  • Proficiency in cost control or project management software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera. 

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). 

  • Ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Technical writing skills with an understanding of business management concepts. 

  • Valid driver's license required. 

Preferred 

  • Experience managing high-voltage substation, transmission, or distribution construction projects. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of substations, substation control, and transmission systems. 

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and attend trainings or meetings as required. 

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods during office-based work. 

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during field visits. 

  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, gravel, and graded surfaces. 

  • Ability to navigate active construction environments including stairs, ramps, and temporary walkways. 

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. 

  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, FR clothing, and hearing protection. 

  • Ability to travel to project sites as required. 

  • Environmental Conditions 

  • Combination of climate-controlled office work and outdoor construction environments. 

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain. 

  • Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial conditions during site visits.
