Department Overview – Intermediate Care/TelemetryThe Intermediate Care/Telemetry Unit (IMCU) at Baylor Scott & White Hospital – College Station is a 40-bed monitored unit providing care to adult patients who require an increased level of monitoring and nursing care.
Our patient population includes adult cardiac, stroke, and multi-organ dysfunction patients. The unit provides an intermediate level of care between medical-surgical and intensive care, requiring RNs to recognize changes in patient condition, provide continuous monitoring, and respond promptly to changes in acuity.
RNs on the IMCU collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide safe, comprehensive care.
- Position: Registered Nurse – IMCU/Telemetry
- Status: Full Time, 36 hours/week

Job SummaryAs a Registered Nurse on the Intermediate Care/Telemetry Unit, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients requiring continuous monitoring and an increased level of clinical support. You will assess patients, recognize changes in condition, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications and treatments, and evaluate patient responses to care.
The IMCU RN is responsible for maintaining patient safety, recognizing clinical deterioration, communicating changes in condition to the appropriate members of the care team, and coordinating care with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. The RN will practice within the Texas Nursing Practice Act and Baylor Scott & White policies and procedures.
Essential Functions of the Role- Conduct detailed assessments of IMCU patients and prioritize care based on patient acuity, clinical condition, and changing needs.
- Continuously monitor patients for changes in cardiac rhythm, vital signs, neurological status, respiratory status, and other indicators of clinical deterioration.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans for patients with complex medical conditions.
- Provide nursing care to patients with cardiac conditions, stroke, multi-organ dysfunction, and other conditions requiring intermediate-level monitoring.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate significant findings promptly to physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Administer medications, treatments, and other interventions safely and accurately according to physician orders and established nursing standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, patient responses, and changes in condition.
- Provide patient and family education related to diagnoses, medications, treatments, disease management, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Safely delegate appropriate patient care activities based on patient condition, staff competency, and established policies.
- Respond appropriately to changes in patient acuity and prioritize interventions to maintain patient safety.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, handoff communication, and other activities that support continuity of care.
- Promote a positive patient experience by establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and families while maintaining professionalism and respect.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support the professional development of peers and other members of the healthcare team.
- Strong knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and standards of care.
