Job description

Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Work Location: USAG Fort Rucker, AL
Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a progressive and well-established Department of Defense (DoD) contractor specializing in Range operations and maintenance (O&M); weapons testing; facilities management; aerial, ground and seaborne targets O&M; technical, logistics and other engineering support; systems integration; electronics and communications maintenance services; and a growing cybersecurity business. We are highly focused and, among other efforts, currently operate a dozen active test and/or training ranges for the Army, Air Force and Navy. Our 36-year heritage is founded on supporting complex and diverse DoD programs and we've developed a standout reputation for providing the highest quality services, superior workmanship and cost-effective results while achieving complete customer satisfaction.
At USAG Fort Rucker, AL, SA-TECH provides Range Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support services for live training of the Aviation Gunnery Range Complex (AGRC) for the Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker Military Installation. We also provide O&M Core Services that enable management and maintenance of training areas and ranges by integrating mission requirements with environmental requirements and sound land management practices under the Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS) Directorate. The Fort Rucker Range and Training Complex encompasses roughly 60,000 acres across the Alabama counties of Dale and Coffee.
We are currently looking to hire a Grounds Laborer at the Fort Rucker AGRC at Fort Rucker, AL. As part of our Grounds Maintenance crew, you will maintain the grounds of industrial, commercial or public property and repair structures and equipment, performing one or more of the following tasks:
  • Cutting grass using walking-type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.)
  • Trimming hedges and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools
  • Pruning shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth (using shears and other hand tools)
  • Spraying lawns, shrubs and trees with fertilizer or insecticide
  • Planting grass, flowers, trees and shrubs
  • Watering lawns and shrubs during dry periods (using a hose or activating a sprinkler system)
  • Picking up and burning (or carting away) leaves, paper or other litter
  • Repairing and painting fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails and outbuildings
  • Assisting with the repair of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment
  • Cleaning comfort stations, offices workshop areas and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping and polishing

The following job functions are the basic requirements of the position (but you may be asked to perform related duties if needed):
  • Supports all target maintenance activities for the ranges.
  • Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and erosion repair.
  • Keeps target locations clean and clear of vegetation and grass.
  • Cleans floors, windows, bathrooms and other areas.
  • Operates powered and manual material handling equipment to transport material to truck for loading and off-loading.
  • Prepares material or equipment for packing, transportation, storage, or removal.
  • Performs vehicle maintenance, including changing components, fluids and filters.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance, fuels vehicles, and maintains records of fuel consumed, mileage traveled, stops and persons contacted.
  • Maintains safety equipment assigned to vehicle and requisitions additions or replacements when consumed.

Work Conditions:
  • Conditions will vary as most of the work will be outdoors with temperature variations.
  • Work will consist of 35% standing, 40% walking, 5% stooping, 10% reaching, 10% lifting.
  • Ability to perform under rugged conditions is a requirement.
  • Lift items up to 50 lbs. alone and over 50lbs with assistance.
  • Normal work hours are Monday - Friday 0530 - 1400.
  • There is a possibility of rotating shifts.

Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working erosion control and grounds construction.
  • Vehicle maintenance experience is desired.
  • Current Alabama Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
  • All employees will be subject to pre-employment drug screening and any offer of employment shall be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
