As a Lead Frontend Engineer at IMC, you will build and maintain responsive applications crucial for decision-making in a dynamic, high-stakes trading environment at IMC. Technology is the cornerstone of our operations, with data serving as the core that informs our strategies. In this role, you will transform complex trading data into intuitive, actionable visualizations and develop tools that enable our team to make faster and more informed decisions than our competitors.

Our core team develops and supports the essential tools that allow traders to interact seamlessly with our systems and the markets. You will also be responsible for managing our React-based GUI platform and some of its key applications, while facilitating the integration and use of this platform by a diverse group of primarily Java-focused backend developers. These developers will rely on the platform to be able to quickly visualize various parts of our trading systems, ensuring broad utility across our technological landscape. You will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the platform and the developers who leverage it to enhance our system's capabilities.

Your Core Responsibilities:
  • Develop and refine our frontend technology stack, with a particular focus on React to build a robust framework for trading strategy visualizations.
  • Design and implement real-time data visualization tools that integrate seamlessly with our trading systems, enhancing our ability to monitor and react to market changes instantly.
  • Create scalable, performant UI components tailored for trading environments, ensuring smooth functionality throughout intense trading periods.
  • Collaborate closely with trading and strategy teams to translate complex trading needs into clear, impactful visual tools that enhance our competitive edge.
  • Lead the expansion of our teamโ€™s expertise in React and advanced web development techniques, playing a pivotal role in elevating our frontend capabilities.
  • Have an opinion on the direction of our frontend ecosystem, as we move from primarily Java-based GUIs into modern React architectures.
  • Engage with various internal stakeholders, gaining exposure to diverse aspects of our trading operations and contributing to cross-departmental initiatives.
Your Skills and Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in frontend application development.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with React, with a strong portfolio of projects demonstrating your expertise in building data-driven applications.
  • Advanced skills in TypeScript and experience with modern development tools and practices.
  • Proven track record in UI/UX design, with a focus on creating intuitive interfaces for complex data sets and workflows.
  • Proficiency in automated testingโ€”unit, integration, and end-to-endโ€”to ensure robustness and reliability of frontend components.
  • Willingness to travel to our Amsterdam office annually for team collaboration and knowledge exchange, our existing React developers are primarily based in our office there.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with technically skilled traders and integrate feedback into frontend solutions.
  • Interest in data visualization and financial markets; experience is not required before joining, but you should be excited to understand the needs of your users and stakeholders.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Azure DevOps, Gitlab-CI, or Jenkins, and familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes are advantageous.
