Job description

Senior Pipeline Integrity Engineer

Type: Direct Hire

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Salary: $155K–$180K DOE

About the Role

This role leads independent technical review of inline inspection (ILI) data for a gas transmission and distribution Integrity Management Program based in Los Angeles. We are partnered with a pipeline engineering services firm supporting the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility to recruit a Senior Pipeline Integrity Engineer for its assessment team.

The Senior Pipeline Integrity Engineer leads complex ILI reviews end to end: validating vendor assumptions, feature classifications, and sizing results, and resolving interpretation disputes with ILI vendors. This is a technical-lead role rather than a supervisory one, reporting to the Assessment Team Manager. It suits an engineer who can defend a conclusion against a vendor, an auditor, and 49 CFR Part 192.

Key Responsibilities

Inline Inspection Review and Anomaly Evaluation

•     Lead independent technical review of ILI vendor reports, data packages, feature classifications, and sizing results.

•     Evaluate high-consequence anomalies, interacting threats, tool limitations, and false-positive or false-negative conditions.

•     Integrate ILI results with prior inspections, field verification, non-destructive examination (NDE), material records, GIS, and cathodic protection data.

Technical Leadership and Peer Review

•     Resolve data-quality and interpretation disputes with ILI vendors, documenting the basis for acceptance or rejection.

•     Provide peer review and guidance to less experienced engineers, and serve as an integrity subject-matter resource.

•     Develop analytical methods, review criteria, and quality controls for the team.

Program Documentation and Communication

•     Document defensible assessment conclusions, anomaly-response recommendations, and remediation inputs.

•     Present findings, risks, and recommended actions to program leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required

•     Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Electrical Engineering.

•     Seven or more years of pipeline integrity engineering experience, including hands-on gas utility inline inspection (ILI) data analysis.

•     Demonstrated technical-lead scope: independently leading complex assessments and resolving interpretation disputes with ILI vendors.

•     Direct Assessment (DA) and pressure testing experience on gas transmission or distribution assets.

•     Working proficiency with Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) cathodic protection curricula (CP1, CP2, CP3) and API 579.

•     Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future.

•     Ability to work onsite in the Los Angeles area four days per week. Relocation required if not a commutable distance from Los Angeles.

Preferred

•     Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

•     Deep experience with one or more ILI technologies, vendor platforms, or validation methodologies.

•     Familiarity with 49 CFR Part 192, PHMSA requirements, ASME B31.8S, and API 1163.

Compensation & Employment

Employment Type: The selected candidate will be hired as a full-time employee directly with our client and placed on assignment at the Los Angeles worksite.

Openings: Multiple positions are available on this program.

Compensation: $155K–$180K annually, DOE.

Work Model: Onsite four days per week with one remote day at either the Chatsworth or Pico Rivera office, candidate’s choice. A fifth onsite day may be required.

Engagement Length: Initial assignment runs approximately two years, with a strong likelihood of extension.

Travel: Limited local travel to field and project locations. Valid driver’s license required.

Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance; retirement plan; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; and professional development support.

Pre-Employment: Offer is contingent on a background check and drug screening.
