Technician - Automation Controls Specialist Sr | All Shifts, All Levels Optimize manufacturing automation systems and IIoT integration across Blue Origin's Space Coast facility.

About the Role Senior Automation Controls Specialist

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As a Senior Automation Controls Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the production support of our tooling in the Factory at Rocket Park area. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and continuous improvement of our manufacturing equipment, contributing directly to the success of Blue Origin’s mission.

Shift Details
  • A Shift: 6am - 4pm Monday - Thursday
  • B Shift: 4pm - 6am Monday - Thursday
  • C Shift: 6am - 6pm Friday - Sunday
  • D Shift: 6pm - 6am Friday - Sunday
Responsibilities
  • Diagnosis, troubleshooting and modification of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and safety control systems.
  • Diagnosis, troubleshooting and modification of program logic.
  • Connect and integrate new and existing equipment into Blue networks to support IIoT initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Factory Automation team to optimize existing automated equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience developing, modifying, or troubleshooting industrial CNC control systems (e.g., Siemens 840D-SL, FANUC 30i/31i/32i).
  • 3+ years of experience with controls and automation software development environments (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, FANUC PMC, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience with common automation control systems (e.g., PLCs, Robots, CNC).
  • Familiarity with industrial safety systems (e.g., Siemens SI, FANUC DCS).
  • Understanding of Functional Safety.
  • A demonstrated ability to interpret and review electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
  • Experience with industrial networking and communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
  • Experience with IIoT protocols and platforms (e.g., MTConnect, OPC-UA).
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and visualization.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing or aerospace environment.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing up and down stairs and/or ladders regularly throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift lightweight supplies or materials (up to 25lbs unassisted).
  • Available to work overtime and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required.
  • Occasional travel to other Blue Origin or 3rd party facilities, up to 25%.

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre‑employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical.
